Catching Up with Yvonne

May was an exciting month but went way too fast.

The Lunch Box Buddy program has taken off with a wild start. It is wonderful to see the response of the community to the needs of our children. Be a part of the solution to child hunger check out the Lunch Box Buddy Program on our website.

We want to say a special THANK YOU to these sponsors of the program:

  • GDP (Great Deal Prodcuts) Landscaping
  • Apex Physical Therapy
  • Lyon Dental

We have kept the pantry closed to clients coming in due to how much we have grown and outgrown the pantry building. We are in tight quarters and in order to have the food and clothes available we have had to remain closed.

We are in desperate need of the following:

Tuesday: Grocery shopping (in our building), checkout

Wednesday: Kitchen

Thursday: Morning-shift kitchen, grocery shopping (in our building)

Friday:  Both shifts grocery shopping (in our building), afternoon checkout

Saturday Morning: Front desk, grocery shopping (in our building), checkout the last Saturday of the month

As you will notice a resounding need for kitchen help is needed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and the last Saturday of the month.

Please help us keep our meals going out for the seniors, shut-ins, homeless and veterans. For questions on volunteering, you can call the office, or sign up to volunteer online!

CUBB (Community Unitarian Universalists in Brighton) held an Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit us last month. We advertised it and hope that you were able to attend. This fundraiser was a wonderful success thanks to all of you who took time out to have a meal and take a handmade pottery bowl home with you.

We want to send out a BIG SHOUT to Liberty Title. They held a food drive for us last month and it was fantastic. If you are in need of Title services – PLEASE call Carole @ 248.765.0090, Lisa or Katie at 810.225.9597. You don’t need to go out of your way for your closing. They will make sure your closing transaction is handled seamlessly and honestly.

We will be closed on Saturday, July 1, 2023 through Tuesday, July 4, 2023 for Independence Day. Have a fun and safe holiday.

God Bless,

Looks like summer is in full swing. We have changed our clothing to all summer clothing. When going through your closets please remember we would love to have your donations.

There will be a transformation of the clothing department over the Father’s Day weekend. 2/42 Church has offered (and we accepted) to come in and remodel our clothing store and front end. Hopefully this will only take the weekend. Come by and see our new look.

Watch for backpacks and school clothes coming the end of July or 1st of August.

As a reminder, we cannot accept stuffed animals or pillows (unless they are new).

Thank you so much for all the wonderful donations.

HELP - My computer has been taken over!

Well, it’s maybe not that bad, but let's talk about how to understand the different ways you could have your computer compromised. Recently I was helping someone who possibly got caught by a drive-by download attack. His PC had a popup in the bottom right that continuously said, “Your PC Is Infected,” click here to fix, but the problem was, it was not his virus scanner creating the pop up. It was the malicious website’s software that was trying to get him to click on it and “install” the fix. Luckily, he did not click on it, and we were able to remove the issue by clearing his web browser’s history and cache. (To do so, click on your browser’s settings and look for clear history). We then installed a new browser and enabled his virus scanner’s browser protections.

TIP: With so many computers’ ability to just sleep and not require a shutdown, a reboot can do an amazing job of clearing out the garbage to help solve a lot of your problems, like printer/wireless issues. I recommend completely shutting down every couple days. You will see a good improvement.
