Week of Action, sponsored by MU Health Care, is currently in full swing, taking place from June 15-21! Hundreds of volunteers have worked on projects for many local nonprofit organizations including:

There are also projects with the City of Columbia Parks and Columbia Public Schools, including some specifically focused on Juneteenth. It has been incredible to see all the important work our community is working to accomplish!

Along with MU Health Care, several other local companies are volunteering, including Boone Health, Caterpillar, Columbia Insurance Group, First State Community Bank, Hawthorn Bank, Missouri Employers Mutual, PespiCo/Quaker, SOA Architecture, Veterans United Home Loans and Veterans United Foundation. These organizations, along with many individuals, friends, and families, United in Action to make our community a better place.

Free Film Screening & Community Involvement Information Session

You're invited to join us for a free screening of the film "Join or Die" at RagTag Cinema on Friday, June 28 at 10:15 a.m. The film centers on America's civic unraveling through the journey of scientist Robert Putnam, whose research on the decline in American community lights a path out of our democracy's present crisis.

Learn why you should join a group and why the fate of America may depend on it! There will also be opportunities to find out how to get involved and hear from local volunteers on the impact it’s had on them and our community!

Heart of Missouri United Way is excited to offer local non-profit organizations the chance to enhance their capacity through the ASPIRES project. One part of this project is free quarterly nonprofit classes, which are open to any local nonprofit organization. 

July Session Topic: Who Does What? Effective Role Delegation between Board and Staff

OPEN TO ALL LOCAL NONPROFITS

This one-hour class is a practical learning experience designed to provide board members, executive directors, and leaders in nonprofit organizations with the skills and knowledge to understand their distinct roles and responsibilities. Participants will explore best practices for effective delegation, communication strategies, and how to foster a collaborative environment that enhances organizational performance.

Heart of Missouri United Way is pleased to announce the opening of the Letter of Intent for the 2025 – 2027 Education Impact Investment Cycle. The Letter of Intent (LOI) will be open from Friday, June 7, 2024 – Noon on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Purpose: The purpose of the Letter of Intent (LOI) is to have a more direct line of communication with organizations who would like to submit a proposal for grant support through our Community Impact funding process. United Way has discovered adding this additional step at the start of our annual process creates a stronger relationship with organizations and helps to clarify the programs and services they seek to have funded by United Way.”

Agency Spotlight: Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture

Their Mission: CCUA works to enhance our community’s health by connecting people to agriculture and the land through hands-on learning opportunities, from seed to plate.

Their Opportunity Gardens program receives funding from our Health & Basic Needs impact investment. The program goal is to increase consumption of healthful, culturally relevant fruits and vegetables; Increase outdoor engagement which can include the whole family; Alleviate the pressure of poverty on food choices by increasing access to healthful foods; and Increase skills, knowledge, self-esteem, and confidence.The program empowers low income families in Boone County to grow fresh food for their family in their own backyard. Through two interdependent services, Household Gardens and Health Education, it provides a backyard garden, tools, plants, education, mentorship, and support, all at no cost to the family.
