Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.
Construction and Design Updates
In May, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:
Area 1 West: Reston Avenue to Baron Cameron Avenue:
Noise barrier construction continued between Utterback Store Road and Great Passage Boulevard.
Crews installed storm sewer between Reston Avenue and Baron Cameron Avenue.
Backfilled curb and placed asphalt along westbound Route 7 between Reston Parkway and Utterback Store Road.
Performed grading between Utterback Store Road and Great Passage Boulevard.
Area 1 East: Baron Cameron Avenue to Colvin Forest Drive:
Completed the tie-in of the Fairfax County Water Authority's 54" water main relocation between Colvin Forest Drive and Carpers Farm Way along eastbound Route 7.
Backfilled curb and placed asphalt along westbound Route 7 between Middleton Ridge Road and Trotting Horse Lane.
Commenced water main distribution relocations near Towlston Road.
Installed, tested, and tied in the Fairfax County Water Authority's 54" water main relocation along eastbound Route 7 between Wolftrap Run Road and Lewinsville Road.
Placed cement-treated aggregate and base asphalt, and performed fine grading between Lewinsville Road and Old Ash Grove.
Began clearing for relocated Lewinsville Road.
Third-party utility design and relocation activities are also ongoing.

Construction of a new retaining wall between Route 7 and Colvin Run is ongoing.
Crews install a new traffic signal arm at Utterback Store Road.
In Case You Missed It
The temporary closure of the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail north of Route 7 near Colvin Run Mill Park between mile markers 3.2 and 3.8 has been postponed until further notice.Click here for more information.
Construction activities along Route 7 will be ongoing through the spring and summer months, and additional traffic changes will occur. Please see the project website for information on upcoming lane shifts and other roadway impacts.
