June News on the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project

Issue 49 | June 2023

Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

Construction Updates

In May, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:

Area 1: Reston Avenue to Colvin Forest Drive (Except Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection)

Completed surface paving along eastbound and westbound Route 7 between Reston Avenue and Utterback Store Road.
Began installation of final pavement markings between Reston Avenue and Utterback Store Road.
Commenced surface paving along eastbound and westbound Route 7 between Utterback Store Road and Amanda Drive.

Area 2: Baron Cameron Intersection

Started milling existing asphalt in preparation for completing the shift to Stage 3B.

Area 3: Difficult Run Area (Colvin Forest Drive to Faulkner Drive

Completed deck grooving on westbound bridge.
Backfilled curb and placed intermediate asphalt for Stage 3A between Serenity Woods Lane and Carpers Farm Way.
Opened new Difficult Run bridge on westbound Route 7 to traffic.
Began milling existing asphalt for Stage 3B between Faulkner Drive and the pedestrian underpass.

Area 4: Faulkner Drive to Jarrett Valley Drive

Completed noise barrier post installation along westbound Route 7 between Towlston Road and Lyons Street.
Completed noise barrier panel installation along westbound Route 7 on the east side of Trotting Horse Lane.
Milled existing asphalt, placed cement-treated aggregate, and base asphalt for Stage 3B between Atwood Road and Lucky Estates Drive.
Continued storm sewer installation between Towlston Road and Lucky Estates Drive.
Placed asphalt for Stage 3B between Jarrett Valley Drive and Lewinsville Road.

Third-party utility relocation activities are ongoing.

Work Continues Along Route 7

Construction activities will be ongoing along Route 7 through the summer months.

Surface paving throughout the corridor will continue, and traffic will be shifted towards the median between Baron Cameron Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive while crews work on the north and south sides of Route 7.
Additional shifts and traffic pattern changes will take place in the Lewinsville Road area in preparation for the permanent configuration at the Route 7/Lewinsville Road intersection.
