Ewing Award Winners Show
Jaffrey Civic Center, Jaffrey, NH
It is the season of the Ewing Awards! Since 2015 awards have been given to artists of all media and styles in the Monadnock region recognizing artistic excellence and community devotion. The Keene Sentinel, and Arts Alive! have sponsored this recognition of the many artists working in this aesthetically rich and varied geographic area.

The Jaffrey Civic Center will open all their galleries to recognize Ewing award winners of the past. Sculptors, painters, writers and those in intermedia categories will be recognized in this exhibition and accompanying performances through June 17.

Last year, the Jaffrey Civic Center was also awarded one of the Ewing Awards for being an Arts Presenter under the new, dynamic leadership of director Rebecca Fredrickson. It was the idea of Susan Wadsworth, JCC volunteer, artist, and board member that one of the 2023 JCC exhibitions be devoted to the past Ewing winners. Craig Stockwell jumped on board, and as a past winner his leadership has been essential in this exhibition.

Participation by the past Ewing winners has been overwhelming, with most of the visual
artists participating. All galleries, downstairs in the auditorium and upstairs in the Cunningham galleries, will be filled with Ewing art. Visitors will see the geometric play in the works by Bruce Blanchette and Craig Stockwell, playful dinosaurs by Christopher Myott, inlaid wood with dragonfly and grasses by Craig Altobello, graphic design by Ernie Hebert and Julie Ferrari, photography by Michael Moore, atmospheric barns by Hunter Milford, evocative landscapes by James Murphy, Gill Truslow, Medora Hebert, and colorful abstractions by Edward Kingsbury, Jessie Pollock, Deborah Kaufman. Other participating artists are Virginia Eskin, Tim Campbell, Sharon Myers, Patricia Wright, Jane E Simpson, Jeanne Maguire Thieme, Gill Truslow, Larry Duberstein, Wendy Klemperer, Soosen Dunholter, Erika Radich, Maggie Cahoon, Medora Hebert, Maureen Ahern, Hebert, William Doreski, Molly Fletcher, Rostislav Eismont, Alice Fuld, Erin Sweeney, Katharina Rooney, Jeffrey Newcomer, Carmela Azzaro, John Roberts, Sandy Shermanm Rosemarie Bernardi.

The Jaffrey Civic Center is open Wed. – Friday 12-5 and Saturdays 10-2. The JCC is located at 40 Main Street in Jaffrey NH. The exhibition is open until Saturday June 17. Come and see what the fuss is all about!

The Jaffrey Civic Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit cultural facility founded in 1966. The Art of Collage & Gel Plate Printing

Saturday June 3, 10-2
$115/person registration plus $20 in materials

In the first part of the workshop, you will learn how to create monotype prints using inks, acrylic paints, stencils, etc. You will make original art on everything from paper bags to tissue paper. These monoprints will be made on an 8″ x 10″ gel plate and used as part of your collage. In the second part of the workshop, there will be lots of materials for you to incorporate into your art. You will leave with your finished piece of collage art and a desire to keep experimenting. Halfway through the workshop, we will break for a brown bag lunch. A week before the class, I will contact you via email with some encouraging ideas. This is a happy, fully hands-on workshop.

About the Instructor:

In 2010, Kate Allen moved from the business world to focus on her creative interests full-time. She studied decorative arts with Amy Howard, of Memphis, TN, and Annie Sloan of Oxford, England. Kate taught decorative furniture painting and multimedia arts in Connecticut. She also held workshops to help women start their own businesses in the decorative arts. Recently moving to New Hampshire, Kate teaches workshops such as multi-media collage, gel plate printing, and vintage photo collage. “the art of collage lets you communicate your experiences and feelings. It is personally affirming, and it is just so exciting and fun!” With collage, you will learn and focus on who you really are. It can change your life in a positive way. This is an upbeat and fun class. Warning: Prepare to become addicted.
