Greetings!
I couldn't have started this month on a better note than attending the 6th International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, MA. This conference was founded 6 years ago by Joanne Mattera, painter and author of the landmark book, The Art of Encaustic Painting. The Conference is also co-produced with Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill since last year, and its executive director, Cherie Mittenthal, also a painter.
Attending such a wonderful and enriching event, not only broadens my knowledge in the arts, in techniques and as a profession, but also opens doors to new opportunities, as you get to meet people working in the same field from all over the world!!!
So, I took advantage of all that the conference had to offer, attended demos, very formative talks, visited galleries in town, and took three workshops at Castle Hill. I also got to participate in The Book Art Exhibition, juried and curated by Supria Karmakar (Ontario based artist), got to sign autographs in the book/catalogue from this exhibit, and participated in the Hotel Fair. (By clicking on the live link you'll be able to see the catalogue and order it on-line if interested)
Now back at the studio, my students had their first exhibition, and classes have resumed. Teaching three days a week and starting a Life Drawing group with a wonderful model!
Please join us this coming Friday, to the artist reception of an exhibition I was invited to participate in, at Galley One, in Old Saybrook, CT. Details bellow...
Hope you're enjoying the nice summer weather!
See you aROUND, Corina

Relief and Textural Effects with Mixed Media in Encaustic a two-day workshop
Coming up soon to my studio.
Learn how to incorporate clay, joint compound and plaster cloth to add depth, texture, and relief to Encaustic media in this two-day workshop. Day one will start with a talk and demonstration of various techniques followed by a hands-on session in which students will apply these techniques. We will use terracotta (earthenware) clay, and joint compound to lay down a ground on a porous (unsized) paper surface. Students will use this ground to create relief on which to design various textures, marks and strokes. We will also create 3-D shapes that will be attached to their panel/s on the folowing day. It will all be left to dry overnight. On day two, students will attach the 3-D shapes to their panels and continue to finish by painting on the prepared surfaces prepared on day 1. They will be encouraged to use mixed media elements to develop their concept. The use of Encaustic media will add to the multi layered and textural aspect of this work. We will wrap up the workshop with a round table discussion and critique. By developing an awareness of the possible textures and layers that can be incorporated to the use of Encaustic medium, this workshop is designed to increase the ability to create, see and respond to a textural surface that can be incorporated into their works, despite their personal style. This workshop is open to students with an intermediate to advanced level of encaustic experience. Cost: $350 (includes materials) Enrollment limited to 8 students, minimum of 4 *Please email me to reserve your spot at Corina Studio/Gallery
