June 2022 Eureka Chamber Membership News
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR INTERIM CEO
Realizing the Destination
Interim CEO
Susan Gillespie
June traditionally kicks off the summer vacation time for families, but not everyone can get off for an extended period of time during those few weeks of school vacation and warmer weather. And now as we are moving away from Covid travel concerns, inflation and gas prices are impacting travel budgets.

For those of us who are fortunate enough to live and work in Humboldt County, the answer can be as simple as being a tourist in your own backyard. A day trip or short weekend overnight jaunt can be a supplement to the longer planned vacation and the perfect way to unplug the children from the electronics and plug into the beauty that surrounds us. One-day adventures can be just as memorable as a two-week trip and we have plenty to choose from to create that family memory.

Taking short day trips throughout the summer gives everyone the chance to pick an adventure that suits their particular interests. There are plentiful thrilling activities such as river rafting, gondolas through the redwood canopy and exhilarating jet board excursions. On the other hand there's leisurely days by the river or enjoyable day hikes through the parks. Take a look around and for a moment, pretend you’re visiting. What would you see, where would you go? If you’re stuck for ideas, contact the Eureka Visitor Center or the Eureka/Humboldt Visitor Bureau for recommendations.

We are surrounded by the natural beauty of ancient forests, spectacular coastline vistas and opportunities galore to explore the history and artistry of Humboldt, but we can get so caught up in the daily routine of life we literally don’t see the forest for the trees. Don’t forget, we’re a world class destination and we’re lucky to live here. So pack the kids in the car and take off for near-by adventures. You don't have to go far to take a trip of a lifetime.
