Town Administrator's E-Brief

June 2023 | Issue 6

Dear Residents and Business Owners,

There is something to be said about the Town of Mount Pleasant's commitment to collaboration and civic engagement. The Town is ahead of the curve in innovative efforts to address tough challenges and make our community better.

This dedication has been further proven as our town recently was designated an All-America City for the third time.

As we welcome visitors from around the world this summer season, we should take pride in sharing the accomplishments of our community.

While we celebrate our independence on the Fourth of July, take a moment to also celebrate our town and all it has to offer.

Regards,

Eric DeMoura

Town Administrator

The award is a testament to the people in our community who are dedicated to bringing positive change and creating a better future for the Town and its residents.

A few of the topics touched on throughout the competition included efforts to make Mount Pleasant more inclusive to people with all abilities, building trust between law enforcement and the community, and fighting the opioid crisis.

Sustainability Tip

Firework Safety and Disposal

  1. SOAK: Take any unused, misfired, or spent fireworks and soak them completely in a bucket of water. Soaking them overnight should do the trick.
  2. WRAP: Once fireworks are wet throughout, drain excess water and place them into a resealable plastic bag to help maintain moisture. You don’t want them to dry out again.
  3. DISPOSE: Fireworks are not considered household hazardous waste and can be placed in your garbage container for removal. Fireworks should not be placed in recycling or yard waste containers.

Watch out for Wildlife

Don’t feed ducks bread! Bread is essentially junk food for ducks. It offers no nutritional value and can cause the animals to miss out on the more nutritious foods they need. It’s best to let ducks and other waterfowl rely on natural food sources to keep them healthy.

However, if you must feed our fine feathered friends here are some alternatives:

  • Grapes
  • Cracked corn, barley, or birdseed
  • Frozen peas and corn (defrosted)
  • Duck feed pellets”
