YOUTH SUNDAY
Our youth have been busily preparing for Youth Sunday, a service written and are led entirely by the Jr. and Sr. High youth of our church! This Sunday, June 12, the youth will reflect on the theme of "Struggle and Hope" in this year's Youth Sunday service. This is always a meaningful and inspiring experience for everyone! You don't want to miss it!
RECEPTION
This Sunday, June 12, we will host a reception to celebrate Emily Slater and her incredible legacy as our Children’s Ministry Coordinator. This reception will be held following both services in the Fellowship Hall, which will be decorated for Vacation Bible School, starting the following day.
BORDERLANDS PRODUCE RESCUE
Dayspring partners with Borderlands to bring unsold fresh produce from regional farms directly to our neighborhoods. Volunteers are needed to pack food boxes of approximately 70lbs that we sell for $15. This is a great chance to spend time in the Arcadia neighborhood, interact with neighbors, reduce food waste and bring healthy food to local families. Our final event until fall is Saturday, June 18 from 5:00-9:00am. If you’re interested in volunteering, email Amy
POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN
Next Saturday, June 18, Americans from across the country will come together for the Moral March on Washington and to the Polls in Washington, DC. While few of us will be able to attend the event in person, we can still provide our support for poor and low wage people by attending a “viewing party” that morning at 7am in the Palo Verde Room. Email Bethany for details.
FAMILY PROMISE
We host Family Promise the week of June 26 - July 2. This close to the holiday can be a challenging time to find volunteers, but you are asked to prayerfully consider how you can support this ministry by signing up as an overnight host. We need two hosts each night. You are also invited to provide encouragement by leading fun evening activities and/or helping to provide dinner through the week. Please email Howard or Maria with questions or sign up HERE.
NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION
Are you new to Dayspring UMC or have you been attending for a while and are interested to know more about the church and what is involved in membership? We invite you to attend a one-hour session with Pastor Jeff to learn more about the UMC and Dayspring specifically, on Sunday, July 10 at 2:00pm. We will meet via Zoom or, if you are not able to participate online, we can meet via phone. If you want to attend the membership orientation on Sunday, July 10, please email the church office to let us know you are interested. If this time doesn’t work for you, please contact the church office for alternate dates or times.
TAIZE SERVICE
Our monthly Taizé service returns to Fellowship Hall on July 10 and August 14 at 4pm. Taizé brings a time for contemplative worship which involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons - a time for personal connection with God.
CHURCH CAMPOUT
SAVE THE DATE! Our Labor Day All-Church Campout is on the books for Sept 2-5 at Hoyer Campground in Greer, Arizona. Registration begins August 1, but you may preregister now (or ask questions) by emailing Carol Muggeridge.
STEPHEN MINISTRY
Dayspring will be offering a new Stephen Minister training class in September. If interested, please email stephenministers@dayspring-umc.org for more information.
THE LONG JOURNEY:
Scholarship Funding for DACA/Undocumented Students
The Sessions Committee of the Desert Southwest Conference which is the planning body for Annual Conference agreed at the end of last year that our mission project would be DACA/Undocumented scholarship funding. Dollars collected will be used to help students pay for the college education & related expenses through The United Methodist Foundation as funded by the Annual Conference mission offerings.
In 2017 National Justice for Our Neighbors produced a video, sharing words from DACA students about what it means to be able to go to school in the United States. What it means for their futures as these wonderful young people participate in our nation. Funding for education is hard to come by, and we hope that you will give to The Long Journey Scholarship Fund HERE.
