Dear St. Edward School Families,
I cannot believe we are at the end of our school year! We've had a fantastic year of growth and development; our students have grown in so many ways. In order to keep the learning active over the summer, we will be sending out summer reinforcement emails with activities next week. It's so important to practice those reading and math skills whenever possible over the summer so learning isn't lost!
This has been such a busy week of wrapping up and celebrating our school year beginning with our 8th grade graduation, the 7th grade's final service trips, picnics and extra recesses, jump up morning, our final Big Red Big Shot assembly of the year with a staff/student volleyball game, recognition of our 7th and 6th grade girls' volleyball teams, PreK graduation celebrations, Kindergarten graduations. Finally, join us tomorrow for the 10:30 Mass. After Mass, students will return to classrooms to pick up report cards for dismissal at approximately 11:30 AM.
The end of the school year is a celebration of everything we have accomplished this year and anticipation of what next year will hold. It is also a time to say good-bye to three staff members. Thank you to Ms. Frankos, Mrs. Calka, and Mr. Sahyouni. We wish them all the best as they move on to new opportunities and thank them for their service to our school.
I also want to personally thank Kristen Puschautz, Yvette Lopez, Joe Puschautz, and Sarah McCann for serving our school as SEPO co-chair and School Board members, respectively. I am grateful to all they have contributed to making our school the wonderful place that it is. We welcome Christine Lopez as the new SEPO co-chair for 2024-25 and Gina Barnhart, Sean Dolan, and Justin Antony as our new School Board members serving three year terms.
The school office will be open during the summer Mondays-Thursdays, 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. Please call, email, or stop by with any questions. We will also continue offering tours for prospective families, so encourage neighbors, friends, and family to reach out. If you refer a new family to St. Ed's that registers and attends next year, your family will receive a $500 tuition credit!
Unfortunately, the summer camp company we had contracted with to rent space in the Dominican Learning Center over the summer had to break the contract. It is a loss of some rental income. If you registered for one of their camps, they will be contacting you to schedule a refund.
Per a request at a recent SEPO meeting, I reached out to Alderman Nugent's office regarding a left hand turn light from Montrose onto Kostner. Here is the Alderman's office's response:
As recommended by the Chicago Department of Transportation, Alderman Nugent has approved the allocation of 2024 Menu funds to install two left-turn lanes on W. Montrose Ave. at N. Kostner Ave. Please note, while this funding has been approved, we do not have a timeline for installation.
Thank you for a wonderful school year! I enjoy working with your children each day and watching them grow and develop during the school year. Have a relaxing and fun summer!
St. Edward and St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sara Lasica
Principal
