This week at CCA (June 28 - July 4), we have three new films opening: Fancy Dance (playing exclusively at CCA), Music (also playing exclusively at CCA & for one week only) & Janet Planet.



Kicking it off, we have Fancy Dance, featuring Golden Globe Best Actress winner Lily Gladstone. Gladstone portrays Jax, a woman on a mission to find her missing sister while safeguarding her niece on an Oklahoma reservation. As they navigate the complexities of their world and fight against custody challenges, their journey becomes a poignant exploration of resilience and familial bonds.

Next on the lineup is Music, a stirring tale set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Greek mountains. Here for one week only, this film is a quietly colossal achievement from one of contemporary cinema's preeminent image makers. Rounding out this trio is Janet Planet, the film debut of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker, who captures the nuanced passage of time and the subtle, heart-wrenching process of a daughter’s emotional shift away from her mother.

Since her sister’s disappearance, Jax (Lily Gladstone) has cared for her niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson) by scraping by on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma. Every spare minute goes into finding her missing sister while also helping Roki prepare for an upcoming powwow.

At the risk of Jax losing custody to Roki’s grandfather, Frank (Shea Whigham), the pair hit the road and scour the backcountry to track down Roki’s mother in time for the powwow. What begins as a search gradually turns into a far deeper investigation into the complexities and contradictions of Indigenous women moving through a colonized world while at the mercy of a failed justice system. Gladstone stars alongside Deroy-Olson, Ryan Begay, Crystle Lightning, with Audrey Wasilewski and Whigham.
