MNY District Family,
Greetings in the grace and peace of Jesus the Christ!
Thank you for reaching out via phone calls, text messages, and email to let me know that you are praying for me and Stacey during these days. Your prayers are a gift to us and we cherish, even covet, them!
In fact, one consistent theme throughout my recent church visits is the invitation to both personal and corporate prayer. These invitations echo Paul’s admonition “to pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16). Thank you, pastors, for reminding us of this central work of our Christian faith.
For some congregations, the invitation is answered through the Christian discipline of fasting and prayer. For other congregations, the invitation is answered through designated days of intercessory prayer on behalf of our families, friends, communities and neighborhoods. For still other congregations, the invitation is answered in weekly congregational prayer gatherings and vigils and prayer walks, interceding on behalf of our neighborhoods and communities. Be assured that prayer is important and foundational work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Thank you for your commitment to prayer.
I offer yet one more invitation to answer. Pray these words of Scripture with me daily throughout the month of July:
“May the God of peace himself sanctify you [me] entirely; and may your [my] spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you [me] is faithful, and he will do this. Beloved, pray for us” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-25).
And let’s remember to include verse 25 – Beloved, pray for us – within the scope of our prayers! To help us, included in this newsletter is a guided prayer calendar.
God’s peace to you,
Pastor Jeff
