Executive Director

As we wrap up our season, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the tremendous success of the Snowbasin Ski Team. This year, we established a solid foundation based on our team values: Relationships, Commitment, Integrity, Performance, Team Pride, and Growth Mindset. These values have guided us throughout the season, helping us create a cohesive and supportive team environment.

One of our significant achievements this year was the initiation of two new memorial events to honor the legacy of our previous directors; Butch Hoffman and Ray Miller. These gentlemen paved the way for the opportunities we have today, and it was fitting to commemorate their contributions with events that celebrate their impact.

We also introduced two new races for our Devo Program: the Hot Cocoa Cup and the Cookie Cup. These events were designed to provide age-appropriate development for our youngest athletes, ensuring that they find joy in the sport while honing their skills. The positive feedback from these races has been overwhelming, affirming our commitment to making skiing fun and engaging for all participants. We also launched our Intro to Freeride program with an amazing 34 athletes this first year and added a second Freeride Comp by creating a partnership with Powder Mountain. Our Freeride program continues to thrive and we look forward to future success.

Our Leadership Team has been instrumental in our success this year. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Matt Bird, TJ Shaughnessy, Wynter McBride, and Colette Smith for joining Craig Haaser and Tracy Proulx in leading our program. Their dedication, both on and off the snow, has been invaluable. They have worked tirelessly to ensure that our athletes, parents, and coaching staff are well-supported and equipped for success.

As we look ahead, I am excited to share that we have some thrilling new changes in store for the 2024-25 season. Details will be revealed in our July newsletter, so please stay tuned.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making my first season a remarkable success. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to many more successful seasons with the Snowbasin Ski Team.

Sincerely,

TROY D. PRICE

Heather Dumas ~ Forever in our Hearts

We want share with that the remarkable Heather Dumas, a beloved coach and alpine parent passed away last month. A beautiful celebration of her life took place at Snowbasin Resort on June 2, 2024, honoring the incredible person she was. Heather's legacy lives on through her daughter Toni, who is passionately pursuing her mother's footsteps in alpine racing. We kindly invite you to join us in supporting Toni on her journey to skiing excellence by contributing to the mentioned fund. Your generosity will make a significant difference in Toni's life and help keep Heather's spirit alive. Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a positive impact.

Freeride Gains Official FIS Recognition

Wednesday was a historic day for Freeride as the International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS) voted to officially recognize Freeride Skiing and Snowboarding as a discipline at the 55th International Ski Congress in Reykjavik on June 5, 2024. IFSA representatives have been actively engaged in discussions with FIS and the Freeride World Tour (FWT) and will share more information in a community message soon. While some members may have anticipated this following FIS's acquisition of the FWT in December 2022, we understand it may still come as a surprise to many. Rest assured, IFSA is committed to supporting the competitive interests of Region 2 athletes while upholding the integrity and culture of our sport.
