Message From The Executive Board
There have been several recent reports in the LA Times, and in other news outlets about how slowly production is resuming for television and motion pictures in the Los Angeles area. The strikes by the writers’ and actors’ unions have had long-term repercussions. In addition, many studios are challenged by loss of revenue streams from loss of paid subscriptions and other challenges unique to the entertainment industry.
At the NHIFP we try to pay attention to the economic situation of our community as it impacts on our need to provide goods and services to our neighbors. We have noticed a slight increase in the number of unhoused people coming to the Pantry, and just the number of clients we receive each week has not declined since the first challenging months and weeks of the Covid pandemic.
So, in addition to providing our sacks of food, eggs, produce, and other items to our neighbors, we will be welcoming some assistance from other agencies in the coming month. These include:
- offering free Covid and Hepatitis A vaccines to our unhoused clients through the LA Department of Public Health.
- the ability to work with the LA Department of Public Social Services to assist clients to register for the CalFresh Nutrition Program.
- partnering with the Comprehensive Community Health Centers to have a mobile dental and health clinic make periodic visits to the Pantry.
- Digitizing our intake and distribution system with computers and tablets we are receiving at no cost to us from the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
- Networking more closely with other service organizations, such as the NoHo Home Alliance to improve the care we offer to our community.
Our primary reason for being will continue to offer food to our neighbors.
We simply seek to partner with other agencies and build on the wonderful support we receive from you.
Thank you for your generous support.
