Madison Station Quilt Guild, Secretary’s Report
General Membership Meeting, May 11, 2023
Location: St Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 786 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758
Attendance: 75 members, 1 new member, 2 visitors
Call-to Order: Meeting was started at 6:33 pm by President David O’Dell
Old Business:
· A motion to approve the April meeting minutes was made, seconded and approved.
New Business:
· “De-stash for Cash” event will be held at the June meeting. Seven tables are still available for purchase. De-stash items should be quilting or sewing related and priced.
· Special Announcement: A new television series is being developed called “Made TV” which will showcase artists, including quilters. Submit videos to be considered for a segment; the series launches soon.
· Paint Chip Challenge has 87 people signed-up so far and tonight is the last night for sign-ups. The reveal will be in November but submissions can be turned in starting in August for review of challenge requirements and planning for display.
· Many members attended the Paducah Quilt show and Donna, one of our members, won a blue ribbon.
· Donation gifts:
o Three (3) members received thank you gift cards provided by Barb’s Sewing Center, Sweet Home Quilting, and Southern Charm Quilting.
o Seven (7) donation thank you gifts were awarded including a Mariner’s Compass book and ruler, half-square triangle rolls (set of 2), Sashiko fabric x 4 and a Sashiko Kit.
· The Sashiko Class is currently re-scheduled for June 10th from 9-3. Sign-up is available through the website.
Speaker: Diane Loehr gave a presentation on the history and art of traditional Japanese Sashiko stitching or embroidery. Images and hands-on examples were provided to illustrate the applications of this method and discussion and a video was used to give an introduction to the technique. Shibori Dragon is one online site where materials and projects can be purchased.
Show-and-Tell: Ten members shared fourteen quilt projects.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:39 pm.
