Featured Location Professional: Dennis Morley
Dennis Morley is a legend in Los Angeles film scouting and managing, current working on Amazon’s much anticipated ‘Bosch’ spinoff. Having worked in the business for 30 years in various roles, he is at heart a daydreamer who has found a way to work to live and not the other way around. We caught up with Dennis recently.
TLP: How did you get into location management?
DM: I grew up in Los Angeles and have been into photography since high school. In college, my interest fell hard on filmmaking. I got my BA in film production, and I bummed around for several years writing and directing small films and working on low budget stuff in whatever department would have me. I finally decided that my skill set was best suited for locations, and I put all my focus there.
TLP: What do you love most about being a location professional?
DM: Scouting places that most people never see or even realize exist is what I love. And the fact that I’ve seen so many makes it even more special. On my current show, I’m scouting and not managing. I think I’m pretty good at managing, but I don’t miss the stress. It gives me time to daydream.
TLP: What do you do when you’re not working?
DM: I write fiction. I travel. I spend time down at my casa in Baja California. I hike with my dog. I watch movies. I sleep.
