Some say young people should stretch themselves financially to buy a home and take advantage of the low rates to lock in their mortgage payment for the next 30 years. They believe home prices are unlikely to come down as houses are in short supply. Others say the appreciation rate isn't sustainable and can shift to a buyer's market quickly. The recession is likely to see more distressed sales and younger households have more financial burdens, less current earnings, and are less likely to be able to weather the impacts of a recession, such as the loss of a job for even one jobholder in a household. Read Full Article wsj.com Used Vehicle Pricing Hits Bizarre Levels The combination of high demand and high wholesale prices dealers pay to acquire inventory has led to record high prices for used vehicles. Both wholesale and retail prices have been surging as demand for used vehicles increases due to low new vehicle inventories caused by a global shortage of semiconductor chips. The average transaction price for a new car was expected to rise to a record $38,255 in May and the average listing for used vehicles reached an all-time high of $22,568 in April. Used retail prices are 15% above where they were at the end of 2020 and are expected to remain strong for the foreseeable future. Read Full Article forbes.com
