LVTC Happenings!
A monthly report of events and resources for our passionate, growing local multisport community.
Happy Training!

Our club is going strong with its training as the outlook for events are still uncertain. During the month of May we swam 51, 000 yards, biked 8,300 miles and ran 800 miles! Keep up the great work ! Our June totals (see below) are looking strong. Don't forget to add your mileage to our running total on the FB page! Let's see if we can out swim, bike, and run our May totals!

This month our club ventured out and tried something a little different thanks to the efforts of Tedd Girouad. Check out the results below from our 40km LVTC Bike TT and see what mountain our athletes are attempting to climb as our 7 Summit Challenge enters week two.

Congratulations to our masters series points winners. Check out the links below as our president sits down with Amanda Lynn, Kim Jefferson and Mark Malone as they give us "kids" some life lessons in the sport of triathlons.

As triathletes we are constantly striving for improvement, under Helpful Conversations see how Training Peaks can help track your performance, while Nicole Kiley teaches us how to improve your nutrition and gives us great resources to refer to.

Don't forget to check out our Coaches Spotlight to gain some valuable insight! This month we interviewed Maximus Jones and Dax Timbol.

We are working hard to schedule our race series for this year. As more information becomes available, we will continue to update our members. As you gear up for the series races, get gear ready! Current Tri Club Members who complete all 7 mountains will receive a to be determined prize.

The challenge is going strong and is already in it's second week. Week one started with selecting either Mount Wilhelm (14,793 ft) and Puncak Jaya (16,024 ft). In week two our athletes are will be tackling Mount Vinson which the highest peak in Antarctica at 16,050ft.

**Upcoming Event Info**

We are going to try to hold our July 11th Aquabike event. However, we will not know if the event will be approved until the week before the event.

If the event will be approved, there will be adjustments to logistics. Watch for more details here; but here are a few key adjustments:

  • The event will likely only be approved for up to 50 athletes (vs. our normal 100). You will still register for the event via our web page https://lvtriclub.com/ (remember, you need to log into the page before accessing registration). Registration will open 2-weeks before the event and we will make an announcement on this page when it is open.
  • We will not be able to provide any aid stations (this is an Aquabike however). You will be responsible for your own fluid / food.
  • We'll have pre-race instructions that will be provided virtually to minimize gatherings.
  • You will not be allowed to participate if you have any signs/symptoms of COVID-19 or you suspect you may have been exposed to COVID-19.

Finally, please know we are all trying to figure out what adjustments we'll need to make in order to have the event - 'race day' will be a different experience than what you've had in the past. But ... we are excited that there is the potential for the event to happen.

June Club Totals:

The Club has been very active for the month of June! Let's keep the mileage going and try to hit our goals. Here are our totals so far:

Swim: 73,676 yards
Bike: 2,509.6 miles
Run: 620.73 miles

Remember as it gets hotter to stay hydrated and try to workout in the cooler parts of day.

Train hard and smart!
Prez Corner:

Crystal Ball

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a crystal ball and knew what the future had in store for us? Of course, we are all wanting to race – but the uncertainty of the situation is challenging to manage. Will there be any races in 2020? None of us knows the answer to this … and the lack of clear picture can make it difficult to stay motivated to train.

What does seem clear is that when races do return, they will look different than the past. For example, more spacing between bikes in transition (that’s good!), less aid stations, different ways to access aid in an aid stations, etc. … the experience will be different.

Something that we can do now is to start preparing for the change. Look at what can you do to be more self-reliant during a race. Do you have the right tools on your bike (be sure to watch ‘What’s in your toolkit?’)? How much hydration should you carry on the bike? … on the run? This is a good time to try to figure out some of those details.

We are continuing to work to find ways for members to be engaged with triathlon. From the virtual strava events, to creating a crowd-sourced triathlon map, to streaming Member Spotlight video conversations. The club is here to support you .

With two bikes and a cell phone, newlyweds Jared and Heather Fisher started a bicycle business out of their first apartment in Green Valley in 1992.
The two bikes were rented until they could purchase more bikes, then a van, then more vans, followed by a bike shop in Summerlin and one in Moab. The tour business was also growing steadily as Jared and Heather worked hard, eating, sleeping, and breathing everything bikes. Eventually it became too much for the two college students so they reorganized the business and created a three-pronged team of friends, cyclists, mechanics, and guides, all with the same passion for…you guessed it…bikes! Today for Las Vegas Cyclery, Moab Cyclery, and Escape Adventures, this passion lives on, thanks to all the friendships and experiences gained from the world's greatest sport
