Fellow Chapter Members,
I would like to first congratulate all of the recent graduates! I have also recently graduated with a degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and I can attest to the fact that graduating design school has been a long and turbulent journey. From the sleepless nights, to the time spent getting to know your classmates and becoming so familiar with each other that you form a bond that transcends your academic career. College has been a time of discovery and a time of growth; through my time spent in school I have developed a new appreciation for the history of our profession and for the progress we have been able to achieve in a short period of time. I am now excited and eager for a new beginning, the start of my career and a hope for a better future. I would like to thank all those that have taken part in helping me through this journey: my friends, family, and mentors I have gained through this process. It has been with their help and guidance that am I able to pursue my goals.
I would like to encourage all recent graduates to continue to be a part of ASID and to continue to grow your personal network. As a recent graduate it is important to continue to grow your network and continue to develop professional relationships with people within the profession. ASID has been able to facilitate your transition from student member to allied member through a reduction in membership fees and the Student Advancement program. As recent graduates it is up to us to continue to grow the strength of our profession and foster change for the good our profession. For more information on advancing or membership please visit the ASID website.
I would also like to encourage all of our student members to submit a project to the 2015 ANDYZ Awards. The awards celebrate the year's best Interior Design. Interior Designers, Architects and Design Students based in Central California and Nevada. All work must be submitted before May 29th. Students may submit: Floorplans, Boards, Renderings, Picture of Model, but no more than 5 pictures or documents total, with file sizes no bigger than 3 MB each. If you have questions, please contact info@asidcanv.org.
Finally, I would like to say that my term as Student Representative to the Board (SRB) will end in the fall, and I would like to take this time formally thank the entire Board of the CA Central | Nevada Chapter. They have provided me with great insight into the professional world and with great opportunities. I came into the position not knowing what to expect or what my contribution would be, but I have worked hard throughout this year to provide a voice for students and allow them to be part of every decision that we have made. It has been a great pressure to be part of this board and I hope that I have been able to provide a voice to all of our student members. I would also like to welcome your new SRB Brenda Tena. She will be attending the Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC) in July and I will be working with her these next few months to ease the transition. Thank you all for being part of my journey.

Senior Student Spotlight.....

Where does your love for design come from?
Design is innate to each and everyone of us to one degree or another, and it offers a
world of possibilities beyond our current circumstances. As a child, design was an escape from the mundane and offered a world of visionary possibilities. My love for
design grew from the possibilities I envisioned as a child and it motivated me toward a professional field where these possibilities can be made in to reality. Today, design represents a transcendent power that connects each and everyone of us. It is the human connection, aft er all, that drives us in our personal lives, our careers, and our connections to the places we call home. Design represents the transcendent power of the human experience, it is the comfort of the home we remember as a child... it is the ecclesiastical awe of the otherworldly... it is the healing environment where we find refuge... and it is the world we are a part of. As a designer I can be an integral part of the experiences of the places we call our own.

11am-1pm
at
Medimer Marble & Granite
3979 N Freeway Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95834
Join us at Medimer Marble for a mid-day LUNCH presentation. Speaker Rich Baum will be presenting an informative program on
Photography for Designers.
- Even if you have a good camera and can take OK photos, why should you hire a professional photographer?
- What should you expect from a professional photographer?
- How much should you expect to pay?
- Why are professional photos more important now than ever?
- What's all this I hear about branding?
- Tell me about web sites like Houzz, Pinterest and Facebook!
If you have ever asked any of these questions, you won't want to miss our June
'Lunch 'n Learn' with Photographer Rich Baum. Along with addressing these questions, Rich will present a discussion on topics such as composition and framing, techniques to shooting, framing elements, lighting, styling and staging, and technology for both a professional presentation and/or design composition entry.
Before moving to Northern California as full time photographer, Rich Baum spent over 35 years in the 'Biz' down in LA. He was a union prop master, stylist and production designer working on feature films and television commercials. With over 75 high profile projects, some of the more notable movies he worked on were Hoosiers, Gandhi, Naked Gun and Beaches. For the past 10 years, Rich has perfected his craft photographing both residential and commercial interiors and exteriors, weddings and portraits.
Lunch will be served.
This presentation qualifies for 0.1 CEU.
