Happy Father's Day to all dads
and to everyone who fills that special role!
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Dayspring's campus was transformed into a sprawling desert landscape this week (more than usual!) as we hosted our children's Vacation Bible School. More than one hundred children played, sang, danced, and celebrated God's greatness during this week! Watch our recap video HERE!
BORDERLANDS PRODUCE RESCUE
Dayspring partners with Borderlands to bring unsold fresh produce from regional farms directly to our neighborhoods. Volunteers are needed to pack food boxes of approximately 70lbs that we sell for $15. This is a great chance to spend time in the Arcadia neighborhood, interact with neighbors, reduce food waste and bring healthy food to local families. Our final event until fall is this Saturday, June 18, from 5:00-9:00am. If you’re interested in volunteering, email Amy
POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN
This Saturday, June 18, Americans from across the country will come together for the Moral March on Washington and to the Polls in Washington, DC. While few of us will be able to attend the event in person, we can still provide our support for poor and low wage people by attending a “viewing party” that morning at 7am in the Palo Verde Room. SNO CONE SUNDAY
This Sunday, June 19, is Sno Cone Sunday! In celebration of Father’s Day, all dads get a free sno-cone! These cool treats cost $1 and proceeds benefit the Project Hope Clean Water Well project. Learn more about this special mission at: dayspring-umc.org/project-hope.
SUMMER CHOIR
We will have choir one Sunday a month through the summer: June 19 (this coming Sunday!), July 17, and August 21. Choir will meet at 8:30 on those Sundays (no Wednesday rehearsals until August 24). JulieAnne Weissberg will direct the choir, which will sing the same anthem at both services. This is a great no opportunity to see what our choirs are all about! Regular choir rehearsals resume on August 24, with Celebration at 7 p.m. and Chorale at 8 p.m
JUNETEENTH
Juneteenth – this Sunday, June 19 – marks the day enslaved African Americans in west Texas learned of their freedom. It is the oldest of all African American celebrations and recently became a federal holiday. Learn more
WALKING THE LABYRINTH
Amidst all the turmoil we are feeling in our world and in our lives at this time, walking the labyrinth offers us a time for intentional quiet meditation with God. You may walk the labyrinth any time when the campus is open. Pastor Shirley will offer more information about Walking the Labyrinth between services on June 26 and July 31. Meet Shirley at the entrance to the labyrinth following the 9:00 service.
FAMILY PROMISE
We host Family Promise the week of June 26 - July 2. Summer, especially this close to the holiday, can be a challenging time to find volunteers, but you are asked to prayerfully consider how you can support this ministry by signing up as an overnight host. We need two hosts each night. You are also invited to provide encouragement by leading fun evening activities and/or helping to provide dinner through the week. Please email Howard or Maria with questions or sign up HERE.
NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION
Are you new to Dayspring UMC or have you been attending for a while and are interested to know more about the church and what is involved in membership? We invite you to attend a one-hour session with Pastor Jeff to learn more about the UMC and Dayspring specifically, on Sunday, July 10 at 2:00pm. We will meet via Zoom or, if you are not able to participate online, we can meet via phone. If you want to attend the membership orientation on Sunday, July 10, please email the church office to let us know you are interested. If this time doesn’t work for you, please contact the church office for alternate dates or times.
TAIZE SERVICE
Our monthly Taizé service returns to Fellowship Hall on July 10 and August 14 at 4pm. Taizé brings a time for contemplative worship which involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons - a time for personal connection with God.
CHURCH CAMPOUT
SAVE THE DATE! Our Labor Day All-Church Campout is on the books for Sept 2-5 at Hoyer Campground in Greer, Arizona. Registration begins August 1, but you may preregister now (or ask questions) by emailing Carol Muggeridge.
STEPHEN MINISTRY
Dayspring will be offering a new Stephen Minister training class in September. If interested, please email stephenministers@dayspring-umc.org for more information.
DAYSPRING IN ENGLAND 2023
Our 2023 residency is happening! We plan a choir residency at Portsmouth Cathedral from May 24 through June 5, 2023. Email David for more information. You can go on this trip as a singer or as a member of the congregation, as we hope it will be a true exchange with another congregation.
