Let's talk about...

Dry Brushing

Dry Brushing is one of the best ways to start the day. Besides being an excellent way to slough off dead skin cells, it helps your blood to start flowing and most importantly dry brushing will help the lymphatic system release toxins. The system is the body's drainage system and as another element of cleansing is vitally important.

The lymphatic system involves an extensive network of organs, nodes, ducts and vessels that traverse almost all our tissues to allow for the movement of a fluid called lymph. The clear fluid is made up of protein, lymphocytes and other cells. It's ability to clear bacteria and toxins makes it an important component of our immune system.

There are hundreds of these lymph nodes in the human body. They are located deep inside the body, such as around the lungs and heart, or closer to the surface, such as under the arm or groin.

To help the system do its  job we need adequate amounts of iodine, chloride and organic sodium, exercise and substantial fluid otherwise our lymph system becomes congested. Dry brushing keeps that from happening.

Use a long handled, natural bristle brush to give your lymph a hand in the morning.

Brush gently towards the heart. Making long sweeps, avoid back and forth, scrubbing and circular motions. Start at your feet, moving up the legs on both sides, then work from the insides of your arms around to the front towards your chest, under the arms, and around the breasts. On your stomach, direct the brush counterclockwise. Skin should be stimulated and invigorated but not irritated or red. Avoid sensitive areas such as open cuts, abrasions and any patches of eczema or psoriasis.

After dry brushing, drink a glass of hot water and lemon to help jump-start your digestive system.

The benefits of dry skin brushing include:
  • Increasing the circulation to the skin could possibly reduce the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is toxic material accumulated in your body's fat cells.
  • Dry body brushing helps shed dead skin cells and encourages new cell renewal, which results in smoother and brighter skin.
  • It assists in improving vascular blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. By releasing toxins, it encourages the body's discharge of metabolic wastes so the body is able to run more effectively.
  • Dry skin brushing rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin.
  • It helps with muscle tone and gives you a more even distribution of fat deposits.
  • Dry skin brushing helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores.

Health Freedom Idaho

A new organization, Health Freedom Idaho, has been formed by Ketchum resident Leslie Manookian and others, to help Idahoans understand their health choices. Learn about the issues, and become a member by visiting the website here .

"Powerful forces are at work to limit what your favorite health practitioners can do - and the supplements and healing approaches they can offer. Special interests are attempting to limit your ability to make healthcare decisions for yourself and your own children.

In addition, a safe, clean food supply is no longer something we can take for granted. Making healthy choices is becoming increasingly difficult.

HFI was created to protect our access to and preserve our freedoms in regards to the healthcare of our choice."
