THE 'BASICS OF GOING SOLAR' WORKSHIP COVERS WHY SOLAR IS A SMART CHOICE FOR OREGON
This free workshop will be at Painter's Hall on Tuesday, July 14th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Solar Oregon is a nonprofit organization that works to improve energy efficiency and provide ideas for building a carbon-neutral future through solar energy. Attendees will walk away with an understanding of why solar is a smart choice for Oregon homeowners. Topics that will be covered include:

- Available solar technologies and how they fit into your overall energy use
- Assessing your site for solar
- How financial incentives and tax credits can cover up to 80% of the cost
- Ownership, Leasing, power purchase and financing options
Workshop participants will come away with basic knowledge about solar energy systems and will be prepared to do more focused research on their own or start working with a solar contractor.
This workshop is free, but please RSVP to let us know you are coming!

Gardening in July: Maintain - and Prepare for Fall & Winter
-
This month, focus on maintaining the health of your vegetable garden - water deeply and intermittently for strong roots, and check for pests. Watering in the morning helps to keep slug issues at bay.
Enjoy the bounties of your planning, patience and hard work! Harvest and use those vegetables you've grown. Harvest pickling cucumbers for actually making pickles! Don't let them get too big (more than 4 inches)! Enjoy fresh string beans, summer squashes, greens, and new baby potatoes (if you've planted them, you likely have a number of them that you can pick and enjoy when they start to flower). Add mulch to the potatoes, nearly burying the greensso that you get more potato production from shoots off of the now buried stems.
Believe it or not, now is the time to start planning and preparing for your fall and winter garden. Midsummer plantings of beets, bush beans, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, kale, and peas will provide fall and winter crops.

Reduced Price on the
Net Zero Home
This high performance 'smart' home is powered by Solar City. 'High performance' comes from extra insulation, energy efficient windows, high performance heating and cooling systems and an energy conserving on-demand water heater, low flow fixtures and dual flush toilets. Your home is durable, built to last and continue performing efficiently. It's called a Net Zero home since it is designed to create as much energy through solar power as will be needed to live in the home.
Built by Winsome Construction, this house is a 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath 'smart' home just completed in March. The price was just reduced to $375,000. Since reduction, there's been a LOT of new interest in the home. If you are interested, connect with Wendy Stassens, builder and real estate agent.

Movie Night
Each month we have a community movie night in Painters Hall, our community center, organized by Kenn Poznar, one of our residents. It is a fun, relaxing time when residents and guests get together to enjoy the company of their neighbors and friends along with potluck tid-bits and byob drinks.
Thanks, Kenn!
This month the feature is The Wedding Banquet, a comedy.
The film, by Ang Lee, is the story of Simon and Wei-Tung, a gay couple living together in Manhattan. To defer the suspicions of Wei-Tung's parents, Simon suggests a marriage of convenience between Wei-Tung and Wei-Wei, an immigrant in need of a green card. When Wei-Tung's parents come to America for the wedding, they insist upon an elaborate banquet, resulting in several complications.
This film was the most profitable film of 1993, and
Rotten Tomatoes gave it a score of 96%
