VegMichigan’s Midyear Update
|
|
It’s the midway point of the year, and VegMichigan would like to give an update about all we have been doing. It’s been a busy first half as we have hosted and/or participated in a whopping 74 events, including presentations, food tastings, pledge bag giveaways, tablings, and our signature event, Spring VegFest. With our two new program managers, who hold advanced degrees in education and leadership, our presentations have greatly improved. Program attendees continue to provide us with glowing feedback about how much they appreciate our nonjudgemental approach, that they feel inspired to eat more plant-based meals, and that they learned new information about the harm caused by animal agriculture. We often pair our presentations with a food sampling so attendees can taste how delicious plant-based food is, which has been a winning combination! Our program surveys reflect the impact that we are having, showing that over 90% of respondents say they will move towards a plant-based lifestyle. Between January and June, over 400 individuals signed up for our 30-Day Plant-Based Pledge. Do you remember when you were new to plant-based eating and didn’t know where to start? Many people feel this way and our pledge program gives individuals a chance to try popular plant-based items and resources to start them on their journey. We are also reaching populations who are often underserved, including a pilot of providing Meals on Wheels clients with plant-based food. Lastly, our Spring VegFest was a huge success with over 7,000 individuals coming out to celebrate and enjoy delicious food and learn about the plant-based lifestyle! This year’s event stirred up a lot of interest, giving us the opportunity to promote plant-based eating on Fox 2 Detroit, Channel 4 WDIV, WJR, WDET, Detroit Free Press, and others! Stay tuned as we have a lot planned for the second half of the year. We could not offer all these free programs without our members. Thanks for your support!
