Read Our Story

Our founder, Kate Armstrong, was introduced to the art of Thai massage after losing her sister, Patti, to breast cancer in 2002.  In her own words, "every day before her passing, I massaged her, and for those 20 minutes the cancer no longer existed....for those 20 minutes she was able to forget her fear....for those 20 minutes I no longer felt powerless. I made a decision after she died to find a way to work with cancer patients AND their families in her memory. I know the importance of touch and loving kindness in times like these."

In 2007, she formed a team, the Women in Mining, (her former industry) for the Princess Margaret Hospital 60 km Weekend to End Women's Cancers.  She has become somewhat of a darling at Princess Margaret as you can read about here

In the years since, the team has raised over $678,000 for Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation with an average team of only 10 participants.

This year, they are at it again, with a much larger team and a much larger target!

So how can you help?

We would like to talk with your Human Resources about a Corporate Health and Wellness Program we offer, both onsite and offsite.   Your company would be provided with a unique Promo Code for the exclusive use all employees. As well as a guaranteed special rate for you, for every massage booked using that Promo Code from now until September 12 2015, Bahn Thai Spa will donate $5 towards the Women in Mining fundraising efforts.

We have all been touched by cancer.  If you would like to support us directly, please visit our team page

School Announcements: Abdominal Thai Massage Intensive - September 15-19 2015 Registration Now Open!

What is Thai Abdominal Massage?

THAI ABDOMINAL MASSAGE has remained hidden for many reasons, but mostly due to the way that Thai massage is taught to foreigners and most Thai practitioners. It is a melding of Chi Nei Tsang or Taoist/Chinese abdominal massage, and Thai soft abdomen massage. These two skills have grown together over years of Traditional Thai massage therapy, questing to heal abdominal issues and finding effective methods in both modalities.

In Traditional Thai massage we approach the body not as a machine but as a physical body with an energy system running though it, and an emotional creature whose feelings can change the structure and physiology of the physical body, with subconscious understandings all wrapped up in a spiritual being having a human experience.

The soft abdomen is one of the parts of the body where many problems occur, due to is mobility and vast range of functions . We will be learning the different levels of the belly and how to detox skin, release nerves and blood vessels trapped in facia, softening scars, detoxifying organs, stimulate energy flow and improve blood and lymph flow and release the core muscles.
