Hello everyone,
As I drive into work this time of year, the sunrise has already occurred and I often meet staff in the parking lot as the crew makes their way onto the course to begin preparing the grounds for golfers. While it is not the assembly that I see in April at Augusta, it still gives me the goosebumps and excitement for the day when I see the parade of green coming up #10 cart path. As the machines make their way through the parking lot they split off to different areas of the course. And the day begins, much like the Grounds Crew splitting in different directions, so does my brain.
I was reminded that we were going to start a Hole-In-One Club for the members here at Kwiniaska this year. So, without further adieu...
- Entry Fee $5
- Once you register in the Golf Shop for the HIO club, each time someone receives a hole in one, the pot starts again and your account will be charged for the entry fee.
- If you are a lucky one to score a HIO, the pot will be transferred to your Customer Credit on your member account. This credit can help pay for the round of drinks to celebrate your achievement or it can be applied to merchandise, food etc.
- This is an optional club to participate in. You will need to register through the Golf Shop to participate.
Given the weather that has occured the past few weeks, I wanted to review our lightning policy as well as the raincheck policy. For lightning, we use Weatherbug to watch inclement weather approaching. When we are alerted to lightning within 10 miles of the area, a horn is blown to alert the golfers of danger. This is the USGA recommendation to forewarn golfers. If you are playing for fun and not part of an event, it is your choice to continue to play or come in. We recommend coming into the clubhouse when lightning is that close; however, it is a choice. If you are playing in an event ran by Kwiniaska, such as league or a tournament, all play must cease. This includes the Match Play Cups currently taking place. Mark your ball (wherever it lies) by sticking a tee in ground behind your ball and make your way to the clubhouse. Play will resume once the lightning has passed, assuming the course is playable.
Rainchecks will be issued if Kwiniaska staff determines the course unplayable either due to lightning or rain. Rainchecks are pro-rated based on the holes you paid for versus how many holes you played. You need to check in at the Golf Shop in order to receive a raincheck. If you leave property, no raincheck will be issued. No cash or credit card credit will be issued. All rainchecks expire the season they were issued. We deem the course unplayable when there is standing water on the greens.
As many of you have seen, Junior Camp is back on the golf course playing on weekdays in the afternoons. They go out at 12:30 in a shot-gun start on 3 holes. There is a camp counselor with them while playing, and they are pretty good about keeping up pace of play (2 hours for 9 holes). Steve "Gonzo" jumps around between the groups, helping to keep them moving. Depending on the week, some groups have up to 6 kids; however, there are only 4 playing per hole. At first sight this can look alarming but please know, they are watched and managed. Any issues, please come speak to myself or John and we will be happy to assist. Junior golfers need to play the course if we want the wonderful game of golf to continue for future generations.
A reminder to please use the stop light on #18 tee. We have seen some golfers play the hole and not touch it. The purpose of this device is to help people stay safe by alerting others when someone is in the blindspot. This is the same idea behind the bell on #9 tee. Once you clear the green on #8, you ring the bell to alert golfers they are clear to hit their approach shots.
One of our staff members asked me the other day if non-collared golf shirts are ok to wear as a handful of people have been seen wearing them. While Mr, Nappi understands this is a newer style, the course still requires the collared shirt as part of the dress code. He believes in the tradition of the game and etiquette.
One of the reasons why we love our members...the kindness they show to one another and the care for the golf course. Howard has noticed you and appreciates the help, whether it be following the rules of Cart Path Only(on days its applicable), not running over the cart blocks, filling divots, picking up the piece of trash blowing in the wind across a fairway, etc. We thank you!
The Member-Guest in July is full and a waitlist has begun. We would love to have a bigger field, however, we are limited by the capacity of the clubhouse. There is still some availability in the Ladies' Open in August so if you are planning on playing, register now so you don't miss out! These are two fabulous events that get better every year.
Now that the project on the hill by #8 green is almost completed, the next one on Howard's radar is updating the forward tee on hole #5. The plan is to have this new tee box open for the Marcia G. Nappi Ladies Open on August 5th. Cross your fingers the weather does not delay this project. Another area you will see the crew working on is the drainage on #8 before the hill. This is an old pipe that is crumbling and requires replacement.
Congratulations to the following:
BIG 3 Winners:
Dave Marshall, Bill Storey and Mike Dionne
Staff Outing Winners:
Mr. Bob Nappi, John Paul, Tom Doanne, Jodie Bisson and Will Oglesby
Hole-In-Ones:
Art Shields hole #13
Bob Davidson hole #13
Corene Jastremski hole #4
Jamie Rugg hole #6
Finally, a shout out to the staff of Kwiniaska. It has been an interesting year so far and without the solid staff that management can lean on, we would not be successful. From the young to the more experienced, the clubhouse to the grounds, you are all loved and great appreciated.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone real soon!
