Our Mission Statement

As a welcoming congregation, we work and worship together to become people of open minds, loving hearts, and helping hands. We honor the transformative power of love in our individual lives and broader communities.

July 2024

July 7

"Progress and Patriotism"

Clint Tawes

As progressives, we recognize the flaws in our nation’s history and call out present injustices. While this critical view is crucial for fostering justice, it’s equally important to celebrate the progress we’ve made. In this sermon, we will reflect on our complex legacy, honor our achievements, and renew our commitment to building a better future.

July 14

"My Time at General Assembly"

Randy Blasch

How going to GA in Kansas City literally changed my life.

July 21

"A Course in Miracles"

Shari Barr

So, love is ever-present, but not always felt. How might we remove the blocks to Awareness of Love?

July 28

"More Will Be Revealed"

Michael Williams

Michael shares very personal experiences in his life. "My sobriety, my sanity, and ultimately my life depends on giving away what I’ve been given. The source of true happiness is to stick my hand out and offer assistance to others just like it was offered to me."

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Starting in July, we will be livestreaming our service on our Facebook page.

You will be able to access our service online here at: https://www.facebook.com/UUStatesboro/.

We will no longer be offering online services using the UUFS Zoom room. Please bear with us as we fine-tune this transition and update our webpage.

LOVE AT THE CENTER

Your UUFS delegates (Jane, Clint, and Randy) have spent much time in long sessions doing the work of the UUA. Unitarian Universalists have no popes, or bishops. We - the member congregations - make the big decisions concerning our association. This year all of this business was done online. Next year, we will be back to a hybrid format with in person opportunities in Baltimore.

We are happy to report that the revisions to Article 2 were passed by 80.2%. of the delegates voting. Our shared values are now in place, with LOVE at the center. You can find out more by reading the recently published article in UU World at THIS LINK.

I am proud to be a part of this Living Tradition, where we transform together into an association that is continually more loving and inclusive. We will be sharing more about how we live these values as we move into the future. Thanks for giving us this opportunity!

Love,

Jane

Join representatives from Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL) and GeorgiaBright at this online informational session regarding solar energy. Our fellowship has a considerable opportunity to install solar panels on our building, and the board has had a few meetings with GIPL to learn about our options. If you would like to learn more about this program, please follow this link in which is the link to register as well. https://gipl.org/events/gabrightinfo2

GIPL and Georgia BRIGHT are dedicated to helping Georgia's low and middle-income homeowners and non-profits access solar energy through discounted solar leases.

Georgia BRIGHT provides a great option for congregations who want to benefit from solar energy without spending a high upfront cost to purchase a system. Learn more about Georgia BRIGHT HERE.

Need a ride to Medical Appointment? Georgia Southern’s Trusted Rider Program offers transportation services to older adults, assisting them in reaching their non-emergency medical appointments and back home after the completion of their visit. The program is run by student volunteers who have undergone background checks and training to ensure they provide the best possible service to the clients involved.

Chiamaka Ogwara is the program’s community liaison and reached out to raise awareness about the program with hopes to get referrals from older adults who may be interested in the program or may have the need for it.

If you have any questions of would like to learn more about the program, contact them via phone at: 912-478-0712 (office phone) and email co06587-sw@georgiasouthern.edu
