Grateful Thanks and Warm Welcome

We would like to express our great thanks to outgoing Board of Trustees Chair, Leslie Bishop, of Regis College. As Leslie’s term as Chair comes to a close in September, we recognize and applaud her tremendous contributions to our organization.

A passionate ambassador and dedicated leader, Leslie’s six years on the Board include her service as Vice Chair, Secretary/Clerk, and Co-Chair of the Development Committee. She became Chair of the Board in 2020, and we are very grateful she has agreed to continue to serve on the Board as a trustee for one year during our leadership transition and search for a new permanent executive director.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of our new Chair, Rebecca Gallo, Senior Program Officer of the MetroWest Health Foundation. Rebecca joined our board in 2017, has served on the Governance Committee, and became Vice Chair in 2020.

We look forward to Rebecca’s committed leadership as we continue our critical work addressing the effects of poverty and homelessness while fostering long-term change in our residents’ lives.

July Community Highlights

Creating positive health outcomes

Challenges with housing can lead to challenges with health, and vice versa. In order to break the cycle of poverty, people need a home and the tools to manage their health.

With that goal in mind, residents have been enjoying a weekly "Navigating the Health System and Self-Care" series of workshops with clinician Karen Katz of Advocates. Classes give residents, many with chronic conditions, the opportunity to learn how to fully access healthcare services, the importance of healthy eating and preventative care, and tips for reducing stress and building resilience.

Retirement Wishes

We wish our very best to Roy Miles, our Maintenance Supervisor, who is retiring next week after almost 24 years at Bethany Hill Place. A favorite of our residents, Roy’s hard work, diligence, and expertise has kept our community healthy, safe, and vibrant. We’ll miss you, Roy, and wish you a long and happy retirement.

Check out Roy's Farewell Party with residents and staff.

No matter the time of year, Bethany Hill Place is committed to providing opportunities and access. For kids and adults who have known only adversity, stress, and housing instability, we make sure each of our residents has a chance to reach for their hopes and dreams.

This is especially true during the summer, when our programming heats up rather than slows down. Education and enrichment activities for kids, learning opportunities and coaching for adults, and community-building initiatives all give families the chance to thrive without limits.

Poverty can stack the odds against success, but at Bethany Hill Place, we believe knowledge is power and that every one of our residents should be provided with the skills, opportunities, and confidence to change their lives.
