Congressman Jim Himes Visits Waveny's Kathleen M. Fruin, RN Certified Nursing Aide School

Waveny LifeCare Network was honored to have Congressman Jim Himes, State Representative Lucy Dathan and New Canaan First Selectman Dionna Carlson visit Waveny to learn more about the Kathleen M. Fruin, RN Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) School, housed at Waveny's 3 Farm Road campus.

The award-winning Fruin CNA School was launched in February 2022. "Regrettably, the pandemic highlighted the indisputable fact that there are not enough nurses or nursing aides to meet the increasing demands of our local communities. As their greatest generation ages out of these key roles, Waveny LifeCare Network has taken steps forward to help fill that vacuum for healthcare providers," said Russ Barksdale, Waveny's President & CEO.

The Fruin CNA School was made possible thanks to a gift made by The Corbet Family Foundation in recognition of Mrs. Fruin’s selfless service, commitment and passion for the nursing profession. The School drives student success with key differentiators like immediate income opportunities and flexible class schedules that accommodate students’ time and financial limitations, so they don’t have to work multiple jobs, worry about daycare availability, or how to pay for school. To date, the School has graduated 135 students who are working on Waveny's campuses as well as in the community as homecare workers. Waveny is exploring the possibility of expanding the School to include a Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) program.
