TRANSPORTATION + PLANNING
Make your plan for Tampa’s parks
The City of Tampa Parks & Recreation has stared their Master Plan process. The 10-year plan intends to think beyond parks and integrate the system with other City initiatives. This would include using transportation and stormwater facilities as part of green spaces and improving pedestrian access to parks. Virtual community meetings start July 13. For more information and to provide your opinions, visit Your Tampa Parks Plan.
Hillsborough TPO approves TIP
The Hillsborough Transportation Planning Organization Board approved the 2021/22 – 2025/26 update to the Transportation Improvement Program by an 11-4 vote in June. The TIP is the five-year spending plan for state and federal funds, and major transportation projects. Funded projects included safety improvements on Hillsborough Avenue and Kennedy Blvd. and added the Reo Street interchange at the Howard Frankland Bridge. Future candidates to be funded include safety improvements to West Shore Blvd. and Lois Avenue, a new traffic signal at Boy Scout Blvd. and Manhattan Ave., and the Westshore Interchange. The interchange was fully funded, but lost funding as the result of COVID-19 related cuts. The Florida Department of Transportation continues to plan for the project to keep it on schedule.
