Envision Eugene Newsletter
What's New with Envision Eugene?
July 29, 2018
Did you know that the City of Eugene has an urban design team focused on improving the quality of buildings and public spaces in our community? How about an interactive zoning map where you can find out the zoning of your property and those around you? This month's Envision Eugene Newsletter highlights these topics, in addition to providing an update on Clear and Objective Housing Criteria. We have also included information about upcoming events where you can connect with Eugene Planners this summer and the Planning Commission's summer meeting schedule. We hope you find this newsletter informative. Let us know if we can answer any questions or provide further assistance.
Urban Design
Design matters!
From neighborhood master plans to sidewalk details, the best urban design - public and private - reveals, enhances, or creates a place that is unique and authentically Eugene. As our community grows, a greater focus on design will help us implement our vision.

What is Urban Design?
Urban design is the process of shaping the physical setting for life in our city. Urban design operates at the intersection of architecture, city planning, transportation and engineering, real estate economics, landscape design, and ecology. The result is a comprehensive approach to physical planning that aims to improve quality in the buildings, streets, sidewalks, and spaces in between where we play out our lives.

The City of Eugene Urban Design Team
The Urban Design team translates policy into development through our design services, including:

  • Working with community groups to create visions and plans.
  • Developing design concepts for public infrastructure investments.
  • Providing design assistance through one-on-one consultations or written materials.
  • Leading area planning initiatives focused on the built environment.

Our approach brings together diverse expertise to ensure City projects fulfill community aspirations. With coordination and cooperation, public vision and private development can be aligned to create seamless, memorable urban places.

Visit our new Urban Design display in the Atrium Building lobby for more information and reference materials. Or visit the urban design web page .
Interactive Zoning Map
Have you seen Eugene's interactive zoning map?

Zoning is used to determine what can be built where. Using our interactive zoning map, you can find the zoning for a specific property or look at an entire neighborhood. It’s a useful tool for people looking at buying property, and also for people who want to know the zone of their current property, or the properties around them.
Clear and Objective Housing Approval Criteria
The Clear & Objective Housing Approval Criteria Update now has a project website! Check out our web page for information on what the project is about, how it came to be, and where we are in the process. Under the ‘Links’ tab you will find past Planning Commission and City Council webcasts, project materials like the project charter and public involvement plan, and useful resources if you want to jump in and get involved!
