Design matters!
From neighborhood master plans to sidewalk details, the best urban design - public and private - reveals, enhances, or creates a place that is unique and authentically Eugene. As our community grows, a greater focus on design will help us implement our vision.
What is Urban Design?
Urban design is the process of shaping the physical setting for life in our city. Urban design operates at the intersection of architecture, city planning, transportation and engineering, real estate economics, landscape design, and ecology. The result is a comprehensive approach to physical planning that aims to improve quality in the buildings, streets, sidewalks, and spaces in between where we play out our lives.
The City of Eugene Urban Design Team
The Urban Design team translates policy into development through our design services, including:
- Working with community groups to create visions and plans.
- Developing design concepts for public infrastructure investments.
- Providing design assistance through one-on-one consultations or written materials.
- Leading area planning initiatives focused on the built environment.
Our approach brings together diverse expertise to ensure City projects fulfill community aspirations. With coordination and cooperation, public vision and private development can be aligned to create seamless, memorable urban places.
