CCE Steuben Office will be Closed
Tuesday, July 4th
Message from Executive Director
With mixed emotions, I’d like to share that after over 42 years of combined service, Pat Lamphier and Nancy Reigelsperger are retiring from CCE Steuben. Both have had a positive impact on thousands of Steuben County residents, by sharing in our mission of educating the public on the importance of healthy nutrition and financial wellbeing. While I’m so happy that they get to enjoy the next phase of their lives by spending more time with family, I’m sad to lose such great employees. They both have shared many memories, stories, smiles and belly laughs with our office over the years. We are so grateful that Nancy and Pat have stayed at CCE Steuben for so long and that they have both been leaders in their fields that many people have looked to for support. When Nancy and Pat leave at the end June, please know that we are continuing to provide nutrition education to the community through our SNAP Ed SFL program: you can reach out to Justine Patterson, Project Director, at jec445@cornell.edu for more details. We would also like to welcome Stacy Housworth as our replacement for Nancy in August. She will be our new Life Skills Educator which is a new title, however she will still provide some of the same programming that Nancy established. You can reach us at our office with any questions at 607-664-2300. As always, a big thank you to the community for all of your support and willingness to learn from our programming and feel free to reach out with any questions/concerns.
Serving Up Summer with Safe Barbecues
Summer is officially here and it’s time to break out the grill! Grilling food is a fun way to get outside while preparing delicious and nutritious lean meats, vegetables, and fruit (yes, fruit!). Before grabbing the tongs, here are a few key ground rules to keep in mind to stay food safe: separate proteins from the rest of your grocery haul; keep meats cool until prep time; wash hands, utensils, and surfaces before and after handling protein; use a meat thermometer to ensure that beef, pork, poultry, and seafood reach safe temperatures before digging in. For more in-depth tips on grilling safely, check out this tip sheet.
