Introduction Letter

Thank you for your belief and commitment to a better Jersey City. I believe Jersey City needs change and deserves a mayor who will bring that change and be a voice for our working families.

As part of our Listening Tour, we had the opportunity to meet and listen to people where they live. Again and again, I had the honor and privilege of meeting good, hardworking families that cherish their block and community, while hoping for better things from Jersey City.

After we Walked through your Ward, we hosted a Telephone Town Hall Meeting. Neighbors "went live" and asked questions "in real time," ranging from exorbanent water bills to out-of-state and hedgefund building owners and their impact on increased rents and housing costs.

If you have questions, comments, or criticisms, please reach me at our website, jim2025.com. Please go to the home page section marked “Stay in Touch” to share your observations and thoughts.

Call me at 201-401-9966, where you can leave a message. I ask for your patience as I return my calls.

Again, thank you for your support. Together, we can build a better Jersey City. I humbly ask for your consideration to be your mayor so that we can continue to improve the quality of life in Jersey City and provide affordable governance, safe and clean streets, and quality schools.

May you and your family be blessed during these summer days with health, happiness, and safety.

Best, fondly,

Jim

Learn About the "Walk"

Thank you to all the volunteers who joined with us as we mobilized our Listening Tour and Walked through Jersey City.

Our Listening Tour has brought us close to so many folks, streets, and neighborhoods. Jersey City families want safe and clean streets, good schools for their children, and parks and recreation for families.

Community Visits

Jersey City Children’s Library

The Children’s Library, a tremendous resource for our children and reading, is part of the Jersey City Main Library adjacent to Van Vorst Park.

Van Vorst Park Farmer’s Market

At Van Vorst Park Farmer’s Market with parents and families, purchasing fresh healthy produce, delicious pastries, vegetables, eggs, and baked goods. Thank you Marc Wesson for maintaining the park!

At Rizzo’s Bakery with 85-years-young Anna Rizzo at 208 Central Avenue. Viva Italia! Expresso and Cantucci.

Celebrating & raising funds for JC Puerto Rican Heritage Arts Culture. The delicious cooking of loving Carmen Sarmiento was the best. Mrs. Sarmiento started cooking at 5:30 am to make sure all food was fresh.

God bless her.

Listening Tour, Ward D:

Central/Heights Business community

Thank you to the Central/Heights business community, owners, employees, and customers for their patience and indulgence with our Listening Tour. I heard you loud and clear as to the need for parking to access local businesses!

Thank You to the Volunteers

Thank you, volunteers, JC community, and folks who shared hopes for their neighborhood. Whether it was the need for increased parking for businesses, requests for residential trees, frustration with traffic patterns, taxes, & cleanliness, neighbors shared concerns.

Jagannath Rath Yatra Annual Festival

Celebrating Jagannath Rath Yatra Annual Festival, Shree Satyanarayan Dham, a ceremonial procession that involves three chariots of Lord Jagannath & siblings, who are grace to mankind; several people stood with the rope attached to Rath in their hands.

Thank you to the Jersey City Families

Thank you to the families we spoke to during our walk. For senior citizens on a fixed income, the painful impact of property tax increases is crushing. Lack of cleanliness in Heights, filled garbage receptacles, and lack of clear striping for parking; services are in sharp contrast with Union City.

JC Pavonia Pool

The JC Pavonia Pool is now thankfully open; unfortunately the Pavonia Pool and the JC Berry Park water sprinkler system were closed. These are basic cooling opportunities for our children during the hot summer months.

Listening Tour, Ward C: Newark Avenue

We continued our walk into Ward C. My "salvation" was “sugar cane” juice on Newark Avenue, walking down Garrison (the best block in JC, in my humble opinion), & being with Father Pedro, preparing for Mount Carmel Feast. Rich Boggiano is amazing, a great walker who knows every family!

Grandview Terrace

With my friend Sonia Staine from Grandview Terrace (on St. Paul's Avenue) at the Grove Street Path Farmer's Market, Historic JC Downtown.

Da Juice “Grand Opening”

Thank you Julissa and Kevin for Got Da Juice's “Grand Opening” on 309 Pacific Avenue for nutritious and refreshing beverages. Down the street from the ole All Saints Parish, where Dad attended church.

Listening Tour, Ward B: Audubon Park

Thank you for all the generous acts of kindness, from folks at home offering water to folks in their car rolling down the windows for the AC. The best was my "baptism" with the children emptying their water bottles on me at Audubon Park, which refreshed my body and soul.

Memorial Walk in Honor of Detective Melvin Santiago

Detective Melvin Santiago, JCPD, sacrificed his life in the cause of service. To walk with his Mom, family & friends to commemorate his service was an honor. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life…”

John 15:13 KJV.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel

At the procession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel through the streets of the ole Marion section of Jersey City. It is a beautiful tradition where Father blesses the homes of those ill and recently deceased. Amen.

With Jersey City Fil-Am Chamber of Commerce discussing the importance of early disease detection, diagnostic examinations, dental & medical care, boosters & vaccinations to address COVID, flu, & shingles. With Medicaid & Medicare, seniors have purchasing power.

Listening Tour, Ward E

Our Listening Tour continued into Ward E, which faces constant refrain of taxes & exorbitant rent increases, affordability, garbage receptacles overflowing, concerns regarding decline of City services, traffic, chaos of delivery vehicles, & school issues, ranging from classes to future needs.

Coach Clarence

Coach Clarence, Coach C was a mentor, friend, and teacher for two-plus decades. He dedicated his life to the children of Jersey City; every child was precious & valuable. Coach believed every child deserved a quality education. He taught our youth to embrace their God-given potential. Amen.

Thanks to Alex Nelson who cleaned up the mess to Arlene’s heartfelt gratitude.

Thank you, Jersey City, for another wonderful season of activity on the streets making connections, building community, and remembering what makes our city so special: all our neighborhoods.
