The Arts and Culture News for JUNE 2023

It's JULY, Happy Birthday USA, love WCAB!

July somehow just snuck up on us this year! And, how great to live in a town where summer is nearly sacred!

Amidst everything that is going on, WCAB is in HIGH GEAR putting on fabulous Summer Nights Concerts, planning for a fabulous ARTicipation Week and the 17th Annual Arts on the Square. Our image for the festival this year was again designed by our friend and local artist Ken Lambert, who took his inspiration from the collaborative community art project, Woven All Together. Ken took our theme and added images that represent all aspects of our beautiful community! Thanks Ken!

And, July is of course the month that we celebrate our national holiday, the 4th of July. Waupaca is the quintessential town for home town celebration, See below for more info. And if you feel like singing, GO HERE! Spoiler alerts: keep your tissues handy, and be ready to feel patriotic...music heals!

Enjoy this newsletter, it is chock-full!!!! As always, we encourage you to browse through: see all the happenings and many opportunities in our community, and if you feel curious, click on the bright blue links to take a deeper dive and get more details!

WCAB's Waupaca Local Live July Show

Featuring

Levi Besaw of Sinking Lessons

Live from the 96.3 FM studio and Live on Facebook!

Sinking Lessons is an Appleton based collective that treads the gaps between the obscurities of folk punk and the more accessible nature of indie rock with ease. Attending a Sinking Lessons show may mean a comfortable and intimate acoustic duo, but you never know who may come out of the woodwork to join them on stage, filling the room with their talent, love for each other, and the audiences that embrace raw honesty and reflection. We are excited to have him on our July show!

Listen to Levi's amazing music here!

and here's another great song, listen here.

You can join us in the studio (send us a FB message) or experience the show on FB Live on our FB page!

Waupaca Local Live is collaborative venture between the WCAB, Waupaca's 96.3 FM radio and WAUP 99.1 fm radio.

- $50 covers one week of outreach programming in the community.

- $150 is the average tuition assistance a qualified student receives at the Hub.

Come to the dance, or contribute via Venmo or send a check to Heart Rock Farm! (which is located at E453 County Road B, Scandinavia, WI, 54977.)

Hidden Prairie

Exhibit up thru August 5!

Our Summer Learning Program theme is All Together Now and prairies are a great example of this-they are fascinating and complex communities that come together to create something special (maybe not too different from Waupaca?). Hidden Prairie, traveling to us from the University of Nebraska State Museum, showcases photographs from Chris Helzer, the Nature Conservancy’s Director of Science in Nebraska. Chris photographed one square meter of prairie over a year, and collected these images for this amazing exhibit.

Our very own City of Waupaca is taking the All Together Now idea to our roof with a new solar panel installation that will generate power for city hall and the library! This exciting project will be part of our exhibit, explaining how solar works and what we can do ALL TOGETHER to make our world a better place.

Watch our website and social media for fun programs, kits, and activities where you can learn more about prairies and solar energy, and become a citizen scientist in your own front yard!

Thursday July 6:

The "SHOP with a COP" program involves law enforcement officers from all agencies in Waupaca County, donating their time to take a group of children on a Christmas shopping spree. Children are selected by referrals from social service agencies. Donated gift cards are provided to each child who then select Christmas gifts for their family members. Dinner for the children and officers, gift wrapping by volunteers and a visit with Santa conclude the evening.
