Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 7, 2024

Dear Parishioners of St. Martin of Tours,

Greetings in the Name of our Lord!

It is with great joy and anticipation that I write to you today, on my first Sunday as your new Pastor at St. Martin of Tours. I am humbled and deeply honored to join this vibrant community of faith, and I look forward to getting to know each one of you and serving you in our journey of faith.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Saju and his dedicated staff for their tireless service and commitment to the parish. Their efforts, along with the exemplary work of Fr. Gener in beautifying the church, have laid a strong foundation upon which we will continue to build and grow together.

I am also delighted to share with you that Fr. Tony Famave will be joining us at St. Martin of Tours. Some of you may remember Fr. Tony from his ministry at Holy Family church. His dedication and warmth will be a great addition to our parish community.

What inspired me most in the Diocese of San Jose is the diversity of cultures. Exploring different cultures and meeting new people enriches my understanding of God’s diverse creation and the universality of the catholic faith.

I come to you with a heart filled with gratitude for the warm welcome I have already received. I am eager to learn about the rich traditions and unique character of this century old parish, as well as to work together in continuing the important ministries and initiatives that are already flourishing here.

As we embark on this journey of faith together, I invite you to share your thoughts, hopes, and dreams for our parish community. Your insights and perspectives are priceless contributions as we discern together how best we can grow in faith and love God and one another.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us in the coming days and weeks. Whether for a pastoral conversation, to share an idea, or simply to introduce yourself, we are here and eager to connect with you.

Let us entrust our parish and our journey ahead into the loving hands of God and through the intercession of St Martin of Tours. With faith in God’s abiding grace, I am confident that together, with Fr. Tony, we will continue to build a vibrant and loving community where all are welcomed, supported, and inspired in their faith.

I look forward to our journey together and to the blessings that God has in stored for us.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Celso Singson

Fr. Celso, the youngest of five siblings, was ordained as a priest on November 10, 1990. His academic journey includes earning a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Queen of Apostles College Seminary and a Bachelor’s in Sacred Theology from the Ecclesiastical Faculty of the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas, Manila.

He furthered his studies with a Licentiate degree in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome, Italy.

Fr. Celso has served in various capacities within the Church, beginning as a parochial vicar and later assuming the role of pastor at two parishes, including the prestigious Cathedral Church. His administrative talents were recognized with appointments as Chancellor and Judicial Vicar in his former Diocese.

In June 2017, Fr. Celso relocated to the United States and faithfully

served as Parochial Vicar of Holy Family Church and Queen of Apostles Church

until 2021. On May 16, 2023, he was formally incardinated into the

Diocese of San Jose. Recently, on July 1, 2024, Most Rev. Oscar Cantu

appointed Fr. Celso as Pastor of St. Martin of Tours, San Jose.

Fr. Celso approaches his ministry with deep gratitude and humility, dedicated to shepherding his new parish community. He aims to embody God’s love and grace in his pastoral leadership, eagerly anticipating the shared journey of faith with the parishioners of St. Martin of Tours
