Last Mile Initiative Supports Sustainability

You may not have noticed it, but earlier this month, Campus Mail Services began handling delivery of Fisher Scientific packages. Known as the Last Mile Initiative, the goal is to cut carbon emissions and vehicle numbers on campus, and increase security by using university staff servicing existing delivery routes.

The project is currently focused on the approximately 25,000 packages coming in to campus from Fisher Scientific annually, but the intent is to expand to other large suppliers in the future to further reduce the number of non-university vehicles on campus.

Here’s how the Last Mile Initiative works:

  • Pallets of Fisher Scientific packages arrive early each morning at Central Receiving,
  • the packages are assigned to department delivery locations in AggieLogistics,
  • Mail Services delivers the packages to the locations that day, or the next day if the location is closed, and,
  • the recipient receives a confirmation email once the package has been delivered.

We are excited to contribute to UC Davis’s sustainability goals by offering this service. Customers should not experience any changes in delivery service levels, but we encourage you to reach out to mailservices@ucdavis.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

New Name Reflects Array of Services

Supply Chain Management Distribution & Logistics is now officially Supply Chain Management Logistics.

Director Jen Carmichael says the name change is in alignment with other university naming conventions and better reflects the diverse array of services the organization offers, which includes everything from mail and package delivery to document storage and microscope services.

Purchasing User Group Seeks Members

Supply Chain Management is excited to announce the launch of an Aggie Enterprise User Group. The group will be focused on Purchasing.

The mission of the user group is to provide a platform for Aggie Enterprise users to share best practices and foster a community focused on continuous improvement of the system's utility, training needs and communication channels.

The Purchasing User Group will meet monthly for approximately 1.5 hours starting in August, both virtually and in person. Topics of discussion will be determined by the group. Meetings will be facilitated by members of the Aggie Enterprise Change, Communications and Training Team and Supply Chain Management team members will serve as Subject Matter Experts.

If you regularly conduct either catalog or non-catalog purchasing in Aggie Enterprise and are interested in joining the Aggie Enterprise Purchasing User Group, please contact Crystal O’Hara at crohara@ucdavis.edu before July 25.

Using Advanced Searching

If you are looking for additional search criteria than those listed when you first access a search screen, you may want to consider using the Advanced search option.

On each search screen in Aggie Enterprise, there is an Advanced button. Clicking this button provides the user with additional options for searching the existing fields. It also provides the ability to search against additional fields by clicking the Add Fields button.

Spotlight On: Mark Blankinship, Mail Services Supervisor

Running the campus is often compared to operating a small city and a key component of that operation is the mail.

As campus Mail Services Supervisor, Mark Blankinship is responsible for overseeing mail, packages, shred and special delivery requests, as well as bulk mailings. And while mail delivery is an ancient practice, Mark is always looking for ways to modernize and streamline the process to benefit his customers.
