July 2024

Lower Providence Library News!

Hello Friends and Happy July!

June was a great kick-off to this year's summer reading!

Welcome to everyone who has signed up on Beanstack, stopped by to get their passport stamped, or attended one of our programs, we are so happy to have you here at the library with us!

This month we will continue to bring fun summer programming to the library for all of our patrons and look forward to you visiting us.

The Friends of the Library Beach Read Bag Sale will end on

Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

Fill up a bag for $5 and get all your beach and pool reads for the summer!

The used book sale will go back to regular pricing on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Adult books are $1.00 per paperback and $2.00 per hardcover

Children's books are $.50 per paperback and $1.00 per hardcover.

All Proceeds benefit the Lower Providence Community Library!

Summer is also one of the busiest times for publishing, and lucky for me four of my favorite authors (Abby Jimenez, Emily Henry, Riley Sager, and Lucy Foley) have all released new books recently, just in time for me to pick up before vacation! In April, Abby Jimenez and Emily Henry both released their newest romance novels, Just for the Summer and Funny Story. I was able to read Just for the Summer in May, and it will probably be one of my favorite books of the year, with Abby Jimenez's signature style that will make you laugh out loud and tug on your heartstrings! I am saving Funny Story along with thrillers, Middle of the Night by Riley Sager and The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley for my beach reads at the end of this month. Hopefully, I will love them as much as Just for the Summer!

While you're waiting for these four new releases, you can check out these author's backlists, available at the library.

Happy reading and see you at the library!

Marija Skoog, Library Director

We are so excited to bring you another year of Summer Reading at Lower Providence Community Library.

This year's theme is Adventure Begins at the Library!

Whether it's traveling in real life or a far-off setting in a good book, the library is here to set you on your travels!

This year we have 4 age groups for patrons to participate:

Early Lit: ages newborn to 5 years old

Children's: ages 6 to 12 years old,

Teens: ages 13 to 17 years old, and

Adults: ages 18 and older.

Our Early Lit and Children's readers will log their minutes read, and teens and adults will write reviews.

Children, teens, and adults can log their summer reading progress in Beanstack! Beanstack will let readers know when they have earned a ticket that can be picked up at the library for weekly and/or grand prize drawings, or a pick from the prize chest.

Download the app or log your reading online!

Need help with logging your reading?

There is a kiosk available at the Adult Services desk to log your reading at the library.

Visit far-off places from the comfort of the library!

We are streaming high-resolution travel videos between programs in the community room all summer long.

We've partnered with Wanderlust Travel Videos on YouTube to bring you this free and fun program!

Passport to Adventure! Visit other libraries in Montco!

Come in to pick up your passport, receive your first stamp, and be on your way to experience what other libraries in Montgomery County have to offer.

Collect 12 or more stamps, return your passport to our library, and win a small prize. This program is for all ages! Participation is not required for our summer reading program.

You may have noticed some new logos on postings around the Library. We are excited to share our involvement in the

PA Forward (R) Star Program.

This month, we'll highlight Civic and Social Literacy

For this literacy, our goal is to engage in discourse while remaining respectful of other individuals of varying opinions; understanding the importance of community engagement which allows individuals to interact with one another, in a participatory manner; invoking societal change.

At LPCL, some of our Civic and Social Literacy programs include special adult programs like Senior Socials and Family programs like this month's Adventure Trivia as well as passive programs like our diverse book displays all over the library. These programs unite patrons and provide an environment to socialize, strengthening our community.

Watch for displays and postings that keep you updated and informed on our PA Forward (R) star progress. Our goal is to be a Gold Star Library!
