Happy 4th of July! I hope your summer is off to a great start and you’ve had a chance to get out and enjoy the warm weather. Lisle offers some great summer events to make it a fun summer. The Lisle Park Districts Summer Entertainment Series kicks off July 3rd at the Van Kampen Stage in Lisle Community Park. The free live music event is a great way to start your Fourth of July celebration! The Village of Lisle will also have fireworks following the concert. On July 4th, the fun continues with the 4th of July Parade in Downtown Lisle.
Also, the next Kiwanis Club Downtown Lisle Car Show is scheduled for July 20th. The fun, family-friendly event is the perfect way to enjoy a warm, summer evening.
July also brings the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Outing on July 16th at Seven Bridges Golf Club. There’s still time to get your tickets and there are still sponsorship opportunities available as well. Contact the Chamber office for more information. Looking ahead to August, be sure to mark your calendars for the Chamber’s Lisle Uncorked, A Wine Event which is scheduled for August 24th at the Museums at Lisle Station Park. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just looking for a fun day out with friends, this is the perfect opportunity to get out, unwind and relax. Be sure to get your tickets now!
The Chamber has a ribbon cutting coming up on Saturday, July 20th at Swallow Stories Bookshop located in Downtown Lisle. The ribbon cutting will take place at 100 p.m. We look forward to welcoming Swallow Stories Bookshop to the Chamber.

My name is Ellen Gorrell, and I am a realtor at Baird & Warner. I have been a Lisle Area Chamber member for 3 years. You definitely get out of it what you put into it. The first year, I went to events here and there when I had time. The second year, I got very involved as I started sponsoring events for the Lisle Park District as well as the Chamber. I am now on a few different committees in the Chamber, and I absolutely love being involved with the Lisle Area Chamber, not to mention the wonderful friendships I have made along the way. I am now on the Ambassador Committee, the Government Affairs Committee, LINCT Committee, the Golf Committee, and the Lisle Uncorked Committee.
I have been a realtor for about 15 years, and I have been at Baird & Warner in Naperville for 3 1/2 years. I started in real estate in Westchester where my husband and I raised our 3 sons. Being well known in the community of Westchester, as my kids were involved in every sport there is, I became a top realtor in Westchester very quickly. I have had a slightly different experience in my real estate career here in the Western Suburbs. My kids were grown, and newly single, and I had to market myself in a way to get the community to know who I was and what I do. I do not sell houses for a living. I help people achieve their real estate goals, no matter whether they are buying, selling or investing. I build relationships with my clients, and my clients usually become my friends. The Lisle Area Chamber as well as the Lisle Park District have been very instrumental in helping me get known in the community and I have had so much fun sponsoring events and positioning myself as The Local Real Estate Expert.
I have been a Lisle resident for 7 years and I truly love selling Lisle!!! My son Ryan is 32 and has given me the greatest gift of all---my beautiful 13 year old granddaughter, Payton. Ryan is getting married in August in Washington State as that is one of Ryan and Serena's (my future daughter in law) favorite places, I can't wait! Ryan is a recruiter for a major company and lives in Naperville. I also have twin sons--Connor and Jordan. Connor married his high school sweetheart, Emily, in 2020 and they reside in Milwaukee. He majored in sports marketing at the University of Iowa and worked for the Milwaukee Brewers for 8 years, and now he is in his third year of law school at Marquette. Jordan is enjoying the bachelor life right now, and he lives in Woodridge. He works as a logistics manager. I am truly proud as well as blessed!!!
My favorite quote is... "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care!" And of course, my other favorite quote is "If You're Buyin' Or Sellin' Time To Call Ellen!"

Be a part of the biggest pet event this summer - the 2024 Ales for Tails Pet Photo Contest! Spay Illinois is looking for sponsorships for our biggest fundraiser this summer. I attended two great networking events this past June. At the 14th Annual DuPage County Regional Business Outlook event I attended, more than 600 of the regions business and civic leaders met on June 6th. The theme was What Now & What Next? The event shared actionable insights and valuable perspectives on the evolving business climate and how the community can work together for a better tomorrow. Then, on June 13th, I attended the Illinois Chamber’s 7th Women In Business Conference, “The Next Chapter”. At the event, a panel of women speakers spoke about strategies and techniques to take your career to the next level. These informative events are great ways to network to expand your network.
The Lisle Area Chamber has some exciting events planned for this summer. The Annual Golf Outing is July 16th at Seven Bridges Golf Club. Would you like to golf or sponsor? Sponsorships are still available for the event. Interested in golfing, register individually or your foursome before the event. You say you don’t golf, then you can still join us for dinner. Then we have the Lisle Uncorked, a Wine event on August 24. The event is being held at the beautiful Museums of Lisle Station Park. There will be wine tastes, music, free wine glass painting, and food available for purchase. We have a special code LisleUncorked for $7.00 off each ticket. You can purchase your tickets at www.eventbrite.com. There are also sponsorships available to market your business at the event. These summer events are ways to networking while having fun.
Route 66 is called the Mother Road and it extends from Downtown Chicago across Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and ends in Santa Monica, California. The “new road” Interstate 44 was built to get people places quicker. This was the idea and what they didn’t think about is all of the businesses along this unique road. Motels, retail, restaurants, curio shops, gas stations, tires, plant and flower shops, antique shops and many, many more. As you probably already know this story from the Pixar movie Cars that came out 20 years ago.
My husband and I took a road trip with our neighbors and headed to many campgrounds along the way on Route 66. Since, some of Route 66 doesn’t exist anymore and some construction repairing the road for their 100 Anniversary in 2026 we too, had to select Interstate 44 at times. We stopped at some of the businesses that were open along the way on Route 66. The stories about this road and families closing established businesses, having to move out of town because of this change. But some of the businesses stayed and thought, how can we make people stop at our business? The Blue Whale, tallest rocking chair, and these giant men statues holding something different at each different locations along the road. I have to admit the ones I found most interesting were the mural walls in so many towns. Especially, Cuba, Missouri which is nicknamed Mural City. We actually walked the town with excitement to see the next one. We went into the bakery and bought sweets. We went into some shops and bought a few things then it was lunchtime. We ate in places we never would have stopped if the murals were not there to attract us to get out of our cars.
My point is how can we draw more business to our local area so people will want to stop and visit and buy? This is the magic question. The College of DuPage, McAninch Art Center has brought in two great art exhibits over the last few years to attract the public to DuPage County and the surrounding areas. Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol exhibits drew nationally as well at international visitors. In summer of 2025, Hokusai and Ukiyo-e -The Floating World Exhibit from Japan is expected to draw thousands of visitors. Veggie Fest is back and draws a huge crowd. The Lisle Kiwanis Club host downtown Lisle Car Shows on the 3rd Saturday of the month, and the VFW sponsors Coffee and Cars on certain Sunday mornings. The Lisle Park District hosts all kind of family friendly events including Concerts in the Park. All of these of events help the economy in our towns.
I hope you have a very Happy 4th of July and enjoy the summer by attending Lisle Area Chamber and Community events!
