The Baker Free Library landscape project is well underway. Three important parts of the plan have already taken place: retrieval of the 1977 time capsule, relocation of the war monuments, and installation of the flag pole. | |
In May 1977, the Bow Men’s Club organized the burial of a time capsule at the library's front entrance. Locating the capsule was a challenge, but with assistance from Tim Sweeney, the Director of Public Works, and the Eastern Valley Landscaping team, the capsule was successfully retrieved. The time capsule will remain sealed until the Town's 300th Anniversary.
Eastern Valley Landscaping has been doing an amazing job! They expertly relocated the war monuments to their new position at the library's entrance. The installation of an impressive flagpole enhances the new monument space.
Baker Free Library is grateful to Eastern Valley Landscaping for their excellent and tidy work.

2024 Summer Reading Program
Adventure Begins at Your Library!
This year, Adventure Begins at the Baker Free Library! Head out on new adventures while learning about weather, habitats and wildlife both in New Hampshire and around the world. Throughout the summer, special events will be offered for every age group. Registration is open throughout the summer with prizes available to kids, teens and adults!

Summer Storytime
Every Tuesday through August 6th | 10:30am
In this all-ages family storytime, you'll explore interactive stories, songs, and activities that help to promote early literacy learning while addressing attention, coordination and motor development. Each storytime includes songs, instrument play and movement activities, and ends with open play time, allowing children and their families to socialize. Recommended for Ages 2-6, but all are welcome.

Every Monday
Each week at the library's Creation Station, you can explore a bonus game, craft or activity at your own pace. A new activity will be introduced every Monday morning, and available all week long while supplies last. Drop in any time the library is open to explore what's new!

Craft Camp
Every Wednesday through August 7th | 3:00pm
Throughout the summer, join us for a drop-in craft session every Wednesday afternoon. Make a new project every week, led by one of our librarians! Various materials available while supplies last. Recommended for ages 6-12. Younger children may need assistance from a caregiver and should be accompanied for the duration of the program.

"I Survived" Book Club
Thursdays* | 3:30pm
Learn about history's most incredible battles, man-made mishaps and natural disasters with books from the "I Survived" series, written by Lauren Tarshis! A new book will be selected for discussion at each meeting, with copies provided by the library. Following each discussion, readers will explore each topics through STEAM-based crafts and activities. Recommended for readers in Grades 3-6, or children reading at those grade levels. *One-Time registration is required for this 3-part series.

Do you love comic books and graphic novels? Try making your own! In this 3-part workshop, build your skills as a writer and illustrator with fun and unique challenges, while collaborating with others to produce your own comic or zine. A Wildlife Adventure with Squam Lakes Science Center
Monday, July 8th | 3:30pm
There are many adventures to be had in the outdoors. Join a naturalist from Squam Lakes Natural Science Center to meet three live animals that you could see on your next outdoor adventure! Learn about the places they live, what they eat, and the adaptations that help them survive. This presentation is recommended for children aged 5 and up in the company of a caregiver. Registration is not required.

Cozy Campout: A Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Monday, July 29th | 5:00-6:30pm
Bring your stuffed animal to a night of adventure at the library! On July 29, join us for an indoor campout featuring stories, games, activities and snacks for you and your stuffy to enjoy together. At the end of the night, your stuffy will remain at the library for a sleepover! Return the next morning to pick-up your friend, and see pictures of how they spent the night.
Registration is required to reserve a spot. For ages 3-6, in the company of a parent or caregiver. *Stuffed animals will remain at the library overnight, so please bring a stuffy your child can sleep without!*

Free Yoga Classes for First Responders
Saturday Mornings in July | 8:30am
Every Saturday during the month of July, we invite all first responders to free yoga and meditation classes at Baker Free Library. These sessions, led by Josephine Fanelli of YogiSTRONG, aim to provide much-needed relaxation and mental clarity to the individuals who tirelessly serve our communities. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or trying yoga for the first time, these sessions offer a welcoming and supportive environment to help you recharge and rejuvenate. Participants will have the opportunity to learn breathing exercises, mindfulness practices, and gentle stretches designed to enhance physical and mental resilience.

Exhibit Title: Touching the Ground
Art has woven in and out of my life as the constant thread. When in doubt or in joy, I turn to the making of art.
I have drawn since I could hold a pencil and saw the magic it held. My early work was based on my drawings of natural forms, which I translated into stencils. I then used the stencils to create wall designs or individual panels. One exceedingly large example of this work is in the Conservation room of the Weare Town Offices. It is dated 1984.
I am largely self-taught, though I think of it as self-directed. I have followed individual artists, studied with individuals I admire; read and taken classes about technique and history of art. Drawings are an important part of my work, whether I paint in the studio or on location. Recently I discovered I could paint freely from drawings I made even many years ago. I recall the location and use the drawing as the guide but explore color combinations.
I use gold gesso as a suggestion of mystery and the everlasting. The gold lies beneath appearances.

Bow Young at Heart
Bow Young at Heart is a social club open to all residents 55 and older. The public is always welcome to attend any meeting or event.
