Summer Reading at the Library

Registration began the week of June 25th but it's not too late to sign-up. The theme is Read, Renew, Repeat and we have lots planned for children, teens, and adults. You will get a calendar of events when you register, as well as, information about on-going activities, poetry writing workshops, weekly raffles, and take home STEAM kits for families. Also, save the dates for the Finales: Friday, Aug. 9 - Teens & Adults Finale with refreshments and trivia. Saturday, Aug. 10 - All ages Finale featuring the Denison Peqotsepos Nature Center.

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Monthly Writers Workshop


Tuesday, July 2

5:30-6:30 p.m.


Susan Powers, the Poet Laureate for Scotland, welcomes poets, poetry lovers, and writers to a monthly Writers Workshop at the library to share their work and encourage one another. Please bring your original work to share.

Open to adults - registration not required.

Art Journaling for Teens & Adults


We meet on the 1st Friday AND the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5-7 p.m. to add a new creative page to our journals. You will receive a journal on your first visit. Supplies and a topic will be provided. This month we have only 1 session - Friday, July 5 from 5-7 p.m.

Connecticut Author Trail 2024


Join us and meet authors at these free library events all summer long. The CT Author Trail runs from July 9th - September 19th with area libraries featuring local authors. The program kicks off at the Janet Carlson Calvert Library in Franklin on July 9th with guest author Tessa Wegert. We will host Scotland author, Catherine Grow, on July 17th at 6:30 p.m. The Finale is September 19th at the Garde Arts Center in New London and features best selling author Martha Hall Kelly.

Stop by the library to pick up your passport with all the details and join the Trail.

Jigsaw Puzzle Contest

First team to complete a 500 piece puzzle wins and will be awarded Bragging Rights. Teams will work on identical puzzles provided the day of the event.


You must register as space is limited to 6 teams of 4 people per team. Ages 12 and up.

Building Club - Summer Reading Edition

We are meeting on the 4th Tuesday of the month. As part of our Summer Reading: Read, Renew, Repeat, the July Building Club is Build a Habitat. All ages are welcome to join us.

Silent Book Club


Make plans to join us on Friday, July 26 from 5:30-7 for a special Self-Care themed reading session. We'll have a brief discussion about what we are reading and then settle in for some quiet time to read on our own.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station


There is a charging station in the library parking lot for your electric vehicles. What you should know if you plan to use it:

  • Download the mobile app from the Android or Apple store at https://onelink.to/5kcvhw
  • First time users will select Charge as a Guest and will need to enter credit/debit card information before proceeding.
  • If you are a member you will need to select Account, Create Blink Code, and then enter the Blink Code when prompted.

The books for 2024 have been announced and are available at the library. Stop by to borrow 1 of the 3 titles (adult, young adult, & juvenile) and see the short list in each category. We'll be discussing the juvenile book, Finally Seen by Kelly Yang, in August with our Canterbury/Scotland Book Club.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten


Help your child prepare for school by reading to them everyday. Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the library.

It's easy:

  • stop by the library to pick up your packet.
  • keep a journal of all the books you share with your child
  • bring in your reading log for a prize to mark each milestone.
