ACAA: Childcare Roundtable

Last week, the ACAA hosted business leaders from across Ohio for a Childcare Roundtable with elected officials and key decision-makers focused on solving the childcare crisis. We were joined by State Representatives Bill Roemer and Andrea White, Brittany Boulton from Groundwork Ohio, and Bryan Stout from the Ohio Department of Children and Youth, who provided updates on how they’re working to improve Ohio’s childcare system(s) and the local impact of childcare issues on our workforce and economy.

Audience members had the opportunity to ask questions and further discuss methods of providing affordable childcare to families – without them having to leave the workforce altogether. By exploring various solutions and concerns, this roundtable allowed business leaders and key decision-makers to work together and address the childcare crisis.

Ohio's State Capital Budget & OTSCIF

Recently, the State Capital Budget passed via House Bill 2, including over $717 million in One-Time Strategic Community Investment Funds (OTSCIF) and over $150 million in traditional community project funding. On June 28th, the ACAA met at the Akron-Canton Airport and was joined by State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel, where she discussed the state capital budget process with our members and previewed several of the House’s priorities for the remainder of 2024.

ACAA Visits D.C. to Advocate on Capitol Hill

Earlier this month, members of the ACAA met with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill to discuss next steps for the Tech Hub and Recompete applications being proposed by key stakeholders from within the Akron-Canton region. These critically important initiatives would drive R&D, workforce and community development, and small business growth.

The Polymer Industry Cluster submitted its final application for the Sustainable Polymers Tech Hub Implementation Grant in February and on July 2 announced that it was selected for $51 million in federal funding for seven of its eight projects! As one of only 12 award recipients nationally, these funds will be used to advance a hub of innovation, growth and investment for the United States focused on sustainable polymers. Read more about the award here.

The Stark Economic Development Board submitted its final application for the “Reconnecting Canton” Recompete Pilot Program in April and is expected to hear award announcements later this summer.
