Welcome, new staff!

Victoria LeCates, Staff Attorney

NORRISTOWN – Victoria "Tori" LeCates joined LASP April 30 as Staff Attorney based in Norristown. At LASP, she primarily represents parents in juvenile dependency proceedings. Tori most recently served as a Family Law Associate with Graff & Associates, LLC in Jenkintown, where she represented clients in custody, protection from abuse, divorce and support matters. She previously worked as a Litigation Associate at Holland & Knight LLP in Philadelphia from 2021-2023, where she was part of a high-volume commercial litigation practice, handling cases in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels.

Tori earned her J.D. from Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law in 2020, where she graduated magna cum laude and served as a staff editor for the Temple Law Review. While completing her degree, Tori served as a Superior Court judicial intern for the Hon. Anne E. Lazarus in Philadelphia and as a Summer Associate for Holland & Knight. She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Boston University in 2017, where she graduated magna cum laude. Equal Justice Works

Equal Justice Works Fellowship: Medical-Legal Partnership to help veterans experiencing homelessness

LASP is excited to introduce Caillean E. Daily, 2024 Equal Justice Works Fellow, who will join us this fall to focus on developing a Medical-Legal Partnership serving veterans in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.

Caillean (she/her/hers) will focus on providing legal representation & education to veterans experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness and income insecurity in southeastern Pennsylvania.

In 2021, the Veterans Administration surveyed 1,773 homeless veterans. The top 10 unmet needs involved legal issues.

A formal medical-legal partnership (MLP) between LASP and Philadelphia-area veteran-serving medical facilities will provide veterans access to competent, accessible, and trauma-informed legal services.

By meeting veterans where they are and working in conjunction with healthcare providers through a MLP, Caillean’s project will empower veterans with the assistance they need to address legal and medical needs adversely affecting their well-being.

Caillean holds a J.D. from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. She is sponsored by Lockheed Martin Corporation.

“All people, regardless of class, background, and circumstances, deserve access to the support and resources they need to live with dignity and fulfillment,” Caillean said. “This belief brought me to law school, and I am honored to now be able to put this belief into action through my Equal Justice Works Fellowship.”

Eviction prevention program in Lower Makefield Township courtroom

  • Thursdays at 1 p.m.
  • in Judge Kronnagel’s MDJ Court, 31 E. Cleveland Ave., Morrisville, PA 19067
  • Limited-scope | 1-afternoon volunteer commitment with no expectation of continued representation

MORRISVILLE - Pro bono attorneys are needed for an eviction prevention pilot project providing legal representation to tenants who do not have an attorney and who volunteer to participate, while also connecting them with social services.

Volunteer attorneys can select any Thursday afternoon(s) to assist.

The project is a collaboration between the Bucks County Bar Association Pro Bono Committee, LASP, and Bucks County Opportunity Council (BCOC), with support from the Bucks County Dept. of Housing & Community Development.

Research shows that tenants with legal representation have significantly better outcomes in landlord-tenant court. Evictions can have devastating short- and long-term impacts on renters, including homelessness and negative health outcomes, and can severely limit future housing opportunities.
