PADRES IRISH HERITAGE NIGHT

JULY 8TH

Last chance to buy tickets for the annual Irish Heritage Night at the Padres! Our very own Máirtín de Cógáin will

be singing the US National Anthem at the start of the game.

The Field Irish Pub on Fifth Ave will be hosting the pre game meet up and celebration offering $5 Bud Light Draft and $7 pints of Guinness from 3PM on, with light snacks served from 4 - 5:30pm. Like last year, we are planning on having another Irish County Flag March from The Field to Petco Park. Game time 7:10PM.

They would like to get the public’s input on choosing aspects of Ireland’s diverse natural environment, particularly our flora and fauna, to help shape a key part of the passport design.

SAN DIEGO DUO BREAK

GUINNESS WORLD RECORD!

From the San Diego Union Tribune: A San Diego duo broke the Guinness world record for running the fastest marathon pushing a wheelchair last weekend. Sean McQuaid, 33, who operates a downtown San Diego flooring store with his father, propelled Riley Pathman, 24, across the finish line in Pathman’s adaptive wheelchair in two hours, 35 minutes and 26 seconds. McQuaid was pushing a weight of about 130 pounds.

They beat the previous record by about 14 minutes!

Shoot the confetti. Or, better yet, pour the Guinness!

FR. NICK'S JUBILEE AND

RETIREMENT MASS

July 1st marks Rev. Father Nicholas Clavin's official retirement date. His Golden Jubilee and Retirement Party were celebrated on June 17th at Saint Gregory the Great Parish in Scripps Ranch. Mass was celebrated at 5:00 pm and followed by a reception and dinner. Such was the response to the event that an extra Marquee had to be secured for to handle the crowds. Two of Father Nicks brothers and his only sister , Marion, along with extended family made their way to San Diego for the festivities.

It was a wonderful evening of speeches & stories and included toe tapping entertainment by Máirtín de Cógáin's Fish Market Trio.

Thank you to the New Americans Museum for all their support, Dr. Jason King from the Irish Heritage Trust, Andrew Fitzgerald, Amy Day and everyone who participated in our pop-up exhibit. We were able to share some local stories and especially the very heartwarming interviews recorded prior to the passing of Frances Avik and Malachy Neilan. To, Mary Bubela and Steven Hessler, their family and friends who gave us some of the personal items to display, we really appreciate your support.

Special shout out to Martina Patterson and Aisling Meaney for assisting with collecting those priceless recordings before they were lost forever!
