The Orcas Island Historical Museums are pleased to be hosting the 12th Annual Orcas Island Cider and Mead Festival in Eastsound. The festival will have a number of cider and mead producers, their fabulous products, and lots of raving fans. Come taste and learn about some of the best ciders and meads from the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Orcas Island Historical Museums, and festival-goers will be able to visit the Museum and learn about Orcas Island’s historic orchards and fruit industry.

BOATHOUSE CIDERWORKS LAST CALL | |
The Barnacle

Boathouse Ciderworks will release the last of the reserved cider collection as part of the Orcas Island Cider & Mead festival this weekend. This limited collection of ciders will not be poured at the festival tent but is available for sale by the bottle at the festival, and by the glass at The Barnacle starting on Friday at 5pm until it runs out. Cider cocktails featuring the Chaider, Peach, and Bergamot varieties are offered. This is the last call for Boathouse Ciderworks. Festival sales benefit the Orcas Island Historical Museum.

As part of a multi-day storytelling Asian storytelling festival curated by the island’s own Nancy Wang and Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo, and under the banner of The OrcAsian American Storyfest (OAASF), this gathering of nationally acclaimed professional Asian American storytellers will grace the Orcas Center Stage spinning true tales of Asian American history, personal narratives as well as the magical mirth found in traditional Asian mythology, folktales, and fun. Roopa Mohan will re-create the life of Kasturba Gandhi. Bowen Lee will embody the pioneering woman mountain climber, first woman to climb Mt. Everest. Nancy Wang will enact the life of Quock Mui, a pioneering Chinese American from the Chinese fishing villages of the Monterey Bay area.

Strong Like Bamboo: With the anti-AAPI hate that intensified during the pandemic, four Asian American tellers will share their stories of their racist experiences and resolutions, followed by a Q&A session.

She is a self-taught artist who has lived part- time on Orcas Island with her husband for 30 years. The Islands and the views from their perch on Buck Mountain have inspired Lynne's many landscape paintings and continue to enrich her creative spirit.

ISLANDERS LAUNCH CAMPAIGN TO RENEW LAND BANK'S FUNDING | |
A team of 50 islanders is hard at work ensuring voters say ‘Yes’ in November to renew funding to keep the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank protecting and maintaining conservation areas in the county. If the measure passes at the polls, a separate source of funding for local affordable housing would also be preserved.
Led by former Land Bank Commissioners Christa Campbell from Lopez and Sandi Friel from Orcas, the Renew Our Land Bank committee includes volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. “We have farmers, builders, teachers, affordable housing advocates, business owners, artists, realtors and others working together towards this important cause,' read more here.
