News and Announcements for the week of March 10, 2024

Calendar - March calendar

Welcome to Judson Memorial Baptist Church. Today marks the Fourth Sunday in Lent, International Women Composers day, as well as the continuing of the sermon series Reel Theology. As a yearly tradition, during late January/early February, I try to predict the movies that will receive Oscar nominations and subsequently create a sermon series based on a select few. The second installment in this series will focus on “Barbie: Risking Authenticity.” Please wear pink on Sunday if you can. Also, if you have a Barbie doll, you could bring that too. The music being played today has been written or arranged by women, and we are honored to have Ellie Brazeal share a personal reflection with us.

ANNOUNCEMENTS.

Thank you for your generous donations to Starfish Ministries totaling $283.

Join us on Sunday for the Minneapolis Trombone Choir Concert at 3 pm This year marks our 49th Annual Concert. Our talented group of over 35 trombonists will present a diverse repertoire of jazz, contemporary, and classical pieces, including original compositions and transcriptions by some of their own members. Don't miss out on what is sure to be an unforgettable experience. All proceeds will go to the Judson Special Music Fund. These donations support future musical events at Judson. Jim ten Bensel is the director. The suggested donation is $20 or pay-what-you-can. FYI-This concert helps to fund all the choral concerts with chamber orchestra that happens at the church.

We are in need of volunteers for Sunday's concert, to assist with taking in donations and distributing programs. If you are available to help, please contact Eileen McLaughlin at maceileen50@gmail.com. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Lenten Prayer Series

What is Prayer? Is prayer a conversation between us and God or a way of connecting with our own wisdom? Is there a difference between prayer and meditation? What does it mean to live each moment of our lives in continual prayer? In this online series, Carolyn Kolovitz will facilitate an exploration of these questions and a variety of prayer practices. During the first session, we'll hear the questions, ideas, and experiences of one another and then practice centering prayer. All sessions will be from 10:15 - 11:00 am via Zoom.

Carolyn Kolovitz, Spiritual Formation Director.

Mar. 2 – What is Prayer? Centering Prayer

Mar. 9 – The Welcome Prayer

Mar. 16 – Visio Divina and Lectio Divina

Mar. 23 – Examen

 Tell your story!

We would love to hear your story – volunteer to do a Personal Reflection in worship! Contact Karla Forsyth at karlamcgray@hotmail.com

Worship Readers are needed!

Be a part of Judson’s worship experience – volunteer to be a Worship Reader! The Worship Reader will be involved in sharing Judson’s Land Acknowledgement, the first lesson of the morning (scripture or contemporary), and reading the prayer intents with Carolyn.
