Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Welcome to August!

Here we are in the 8th month of the year, and in August we celebrate the Immaculate Heart of Mary! There are many great Saints who have their feasts this month, learn more about them here. In addition, we celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord, The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Look for ways to celebrate the liturgical calendar with your family. Pray a rosary together, make an Immaculate Heart Cake and invite others over to eat and pray together, or read together about the life of a saint. There are so many special ways to learn about our Catholic faith and live liturgically.

If you missed the National Eucharistic Congress in July, look for the link in the Special Events Section below to watch and listen.

Please let us know how we can better serve you and your parish as we carry out our mission of evangelization to help parishes bring people to an encounter with Christ and a deeper appreciation of the Catholic faith. (Contact us at family@diocesepb.org)

May God's Mercy and Peace be with you and your family,

Cathy, Deacon Louie, Beth, Liliana, Andy,

Maria, Cindy, and Rosario

What does the Immaculate Heart of Mary mean?

The Immaculate Heart of Mary signifies, first of all, the great purity and love of the heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary for God. This purity is manifested in her “Yes” to the Father at the Incarnation, Her love for, and cooperation with, the Incarnate Son in His redemptive mission, and her docility to the Holy Spirit, enabling her to remain free of the stain of personal sin throughout her life. Mary’s Immaculate Heart, therefore, points us to her profound interior life, where she experienced both joys and sorrows, yet remained faithful, as we, too, are called to do.

God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes and illnesses that may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety and give us ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind, and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen. Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and Patroness of our Diocese, pray for us.

“For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one. So, they are no longer two but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.”

Encouragement & Enrichment

Good marriages can always be made better! Pope Francis described marriage as “a project to be worked on together” and a “process of growth” (Amoris Laetitia, no. 218, 221). The Church provides many opportunities for spouses to deepen and refine their love for each other.
