Pray for our 8th grade Confirmandi

This Saturday, April 13th, our 8th graders will be confirmed by Bishop Mark Bartosic. Please keep them in your prayers as they take this important step in their faith journey. We asked them a few questions prior to their special day, here is a selection of responses:

Why did you choose to be confirmed?

I chose to be confirmed as I wanted to continue my spiritual mission and grow closer to God. This will help me be a better person, make better choices, and guide me in all aspects of my life.

~Gabriele D.

I chose to be confirmed because I want to be able to continue my faith. This is the first time in my faith where I get to decide for myself.

~Jemma S.

I chose to be confirmed because I want to continue my Catholic faith past my years at St. Josaphat. This is important to me because I have learned the significance of having God present in my life.

~Ella K.

Which saint did you pick for your patron and why?

I chose St. Paul because I think it is interesting how he went from stoning Christians to being a Christian. I also think it is interesting how he went from Saul to Paul.

~Joseph K.

Of the thousands of saints to choose for Confirmation, I chose St. Francis of Assisi, because Francis and I deeply relate to our love for the Earth and humility towards God.

~Tucker G.

I chose Saint Katharine Drexel because she worked to help people of other races and bring education to all. I think this is important because I value education, and I used to live in another country, so racial justice is important to me.

~Josephine Z.

Which gift of the Holy Spirit do you feel you need the most at this point in your life, and why?

A gift of the Holy Spirit I feel that I need most at this point in my life is understanding. I need this because I need to understand the mistakes that I make and understand other people.

~Andrew L.

I feel that the gift of wisdom is most important in my life because it helps me to see God’s gifts in my life. This helps me be more perceptive of the world and what God has gifted us.

~Lauren W.

One gift of the Holy Spirit I need most right now is knowledge about the wisdom of God and his creation. Knowing about him will help me learn to love him.

~Adelyn R.

May God bless them all abundantly on their special day and always!

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Thank You for Your Generosity

Cardinal Cupich has shared with Fr. Carlos his gratitude for St. Josaphat Parish exceeding our 2024 Annual Catholic Appeal goal of $45,701.92. We will receive our first rebate distribution in October and the final distribution in March 2025. Thank you for your generosity!

Facilities Update

Church & Rectory Radiators - If you've spent time in our church or rectory, you may have heard ghosts banging on the pipes - aka broken steam traps in the radiators. Those will get replaced soon.

School Boiler Replacement - We are finalizing the contracting of new boilers for the school and replacing them over the summer. Higher efficiency and reliability awaits us this winter!

Rectory Water Line Replacement - Water seems to love to infiltrate our buildings. The old lead water line to our rectory burst and a steady flow of water threatened to produce a swimming pool in the fireplace room. Big credit to Alderman Hopkins' office in helping us to expedite emergency repair this with the city - crews were onsite the same day to shut off the water, dig into the street and identify the source. And thanks to our quick thinking Head of Maintenance, Marcos, we are able to have water in the rectory through a rerouted line from the church. Next week the basement floor gets trenched, a new line installed, concrete poured and if all goes well, nobody will even know what happened.
