WOW. What a fantastic start to Black History Month!

Tiger Pride Day
Our 3rd Annual Booster Club Tiger Pride Day was a success in every sense of the word! What a joy to see nearly 3,000 Tigers decked out in orange and green from head to toe, representing the rich pride, tradition, and legacy of Jones High School since 1895.

I would like to give special thanks to the creator of Tiger Pride Day - Booster Club President Ivy Wynn - and her committee comprised of Barbara Page Burns, Gloria Elder Ross, Sonya Hill, Kisha Baker-Williams, Kendra Johnson, Traci Wade, and Hope Massey. These ladies have been working tirelessly since last February to ensure this year's event was even bigger and better. We had hundreds more people who rallied their classmates, collected funds for tent decorations and shirts, and raised awareness of the event on social media. All of your hard work was evident with our record attendance. Thank you.

We had 51 classes officially represented this year, ranging from 1953 to 2014. The winner of Best Tent went to the Class of 1971. The Class of 1988 was the runner-up, and the Class of 1967 took third place. It was so much fun to visit each of the tents and learn what made your class unique. I enjoyed meeting and learning from each and every one of you.

The performances from the JHS Alumni Band, Concert Choir, and Marching Tigers were enjoyed by all. We had record attendance for current students, as well. Congratulations to Schimelda Louissaint who was the first student to turn in her scavenger hunt with only one missed question. Deja Hamilton, Emiah Youman, and Alaishia Mason tied for second place, and Eboni Wright took third place. We hope all students who participated in the scavenger hunt enjoyed learning about the amazing alumni and what they have accomplished over the years.

National Signing Day
Saturday's great event was followed by our record-breaking National Signing Day on February 7. We had 24 student-athletes sign their commitment to attend and play football at the collegiate level. Coach Elijah Williams works incredibly hard to match players with colleges and universities that will best meet their goals. A total of 12 players signed with Division 1 schools, 9 players signed Division 2, and 3 players signed with junior colleges. What an incredible accomplishment for this senior class!

Community Involvement
There is no doubt that Jones High School is rich in pride and tradition. Please help us continue our powerful legacy by mentoring, volunteering, or joining the PTSA, SAC, Booster Club, JHS Alumni Association, and the JHS Historical Society, just to name a few. You can also make a huge difference in the life of a current Tiger by donating to the JHS Foundation.
