Daylight Savings ends this Sunday

St. Luke's Episcopal Church

1504 Myrtle Street (P.O. Box 381)

Calistoga, CA 94515

Gospel: Luke 20:27-38

Some Sadducees, those who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no children, the man shall marry the widow and raise up children for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the first married, and died childless; then the second and the third married her, and so in the same way all seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had married her.” Jesus said to them, “Those who belong to this age marry and are given in marriage; but those who are considered worthy of a place in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. Indeed they cannot die anymore, because they are like angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection. And the fact that the dead are raised Moses himself showed, in the story about the bush, where he speaks of the Lord as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive.”

Collect from Sunday, Oct 30

Father,

We see before us humankind faced with a growing divide, engendered by greed, pride, and the need for control; propagating the darkness of oppression and injustice near and

afar.

Lord, teach us to see with Thine eyes of humility, empathy, and compassion. Instill within our hearts the gift of bringing forth goodness in others through the practice of benevolence and loving grace; restoring and nurturing the ties which bind us, and serving to remind our world to be humane and kind.

Grant that we may be warriors of

Thy light, dispersing the shadows of dissonance as we endeavor to abide and serve in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and forever.

Amen.

As you may know, York and Elizabeth Wong have been writing weekly Collects for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020. We're reprinting them because they are worth re-reading.

Outreach at Grace Episcopal

for Thanksgiving

UpValley Family Center
Meals on Wheels

There are two opportunities to participate in outreach

with Grace Church:

Adopt a Family - 50 families in Calistoga and St Helena (through UpValley Family Centers) will receive baskets with gift cards from Target and Safeway so that they can buy food and gifts for their families for the holidays.

Thanksgiving - we are assisting Meals on Wheels and providing a thanksgiving meal to those that are home alone. We need food and delivery drivers.

If you can help with either (or both)

please contact:

St. Luke's Episcopal Church History

OUR HISTORY

Earlier this year, St. Luke's Episcopal Church celebrated the 75th anniversary of the building of the church. But the congregation is much older than that, having first gathered in June 1917 for an Episcopal service in Calistoga.
