First Sunday after Epiphany

Gospel: Matthew 3:13-17

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”

Collect for Sunday, Jan 8, 2023

To loving Emanuel, God of understanding, wisdom, and compassion; Savior to all souls, offering us this seat at life’s table.

To Blessed Mother Mary, whose humility, love, faith, and charity, are an example for all to follow,

To the angels, saints, and clergy, whose dedication to heal, nurture, and help transcend, inspires us in the direction of our loving Father.

Help us honor our connection with Thee and to all our brothers and sisters, not by faith alone but in the proclamation that Christ, our Lord, through His crucifixion, death, and resurrection, has offered the greatest love of all, the redemption of our sins and life everlasting. Grant that we live each day mindful of these blessings, as we abide in the will of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with Thee, and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

Donations of Winter Clothing

Did you receive new winter clothing for Christmas and now need to make room in your closet? St. John’s, Lakeport, the only Episcopal Church serving Lake County has a Thrift Store in need of winter clothing in good condition. Coats, sweaters, hats, gloves, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Deacon Susan Napoliello and Rev. Wendy Watson will be traveling to Lakeport for worship on Sunday, January 15th.  They will happily bring your donations of winter clothing.

Donations can be brought to St. Luke’s on Sunday, January 8th for Deacon Susan to collect or you can contact her by phone (415-734-1355) or email (susannapoliello@gmail.com) to arrange another drop-off opportunity.

Please limit donations to winter clothing (men, women and children) as the space is limited inside the thrift store and managed by a small number of volunteers.

Thank you!

Deacon Susan Napoliello

OUR HISTORY

In April of 2022, St. Luke's Episcopal Church celebrated the 75th anniversary of the building of the church. But the congregation is much older than that, having first gathered in June 1917 for an Episcopal service in Calistoga.
