Fifth Sunday in Lent - The Episcopal Church | |
Gospel: John 11:1-45
Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. Mary was the one who anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped his feet with her hair; her brother Lazarus was ill. So the sisters sent a message to Jesus, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This illness does not lead to death; rather it is for God’s glory, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
Accordingly, though Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus, after having heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now trying to stone you, and are you going there again?”Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Those who walk during the day do not stumble, because they see the light of this world.

Heavenly Father,
If faith is the ability to walk with God without knowing, then let us surrender to Thy plan, for Thy will be done.
In so doing, help sustain our faith when we grow weary and are prone to stumble and fall. Offer us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit when hardness consumes the heart.
Give us hope to overcome our trials and the ones we have yet to endure.
Grant that we may shine Thy wondrous love, a love without borders nor expectations. One that practices tolerance, patience, and compassion; filled with the generosity of kindness. A love that provides for the well-being of others and this world.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, Who lives and reigns with Thee, and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

OUR HISTORY
In April of 2022, St. Luke's Episcopal Church celebrated the 75th anniversary of the building of the church. But the congregation is much older than that, having first gathered in June 1917 for an Episcopal service in Calistoga.
